Campaign Manager Ken Mehlman on President Bush Confronting the Challenges of Our Time

This morning, Campaign Manager Ken Mehlman summed up the historic challenges confronted by President Bush and our nation in remarks to Republican Governors at their annual conference in Florida. Here are some highlights from his call to action at the end:

"These last three years have changed our world and our country. But they haven't changed our president. He is just as certain today as he was in 2000 of the principles that make America work...and that make the world safe--freedom, opportunity, security.

"He's doing his part. Now we get to do ours. It's up to all of us to ensure that this good man remains in office to pursue these great principles.

"Eleven months from now, we will make a choice.

"Eleven months from now we will choose between victory in Iraq or insecurity in America.

"Eleven months from now we will choose between more money in the pockets of families or more money in the coffers of the government.

"And eleven months from now we will choose between a leader of principle or a politician of protest, pandering and pessimism.

"The choice is ours. But the legacy will belong to our children. What kind of world will we leave them? What kind of America will they inherit? Under President Bush's leadership, they will find the world a much better place, and America a much stronger nation."

They're right.

Eleven months from now, we will choose between victory in Iraq by electing a Democrat who will earnestly begin the transition to Iraqi self-rule, or insecurity in America by re-installing George W. Bush, whose unnecessary wars have both pissed off the whole world and deployed so many troops there aren't enough to defend the Continental United States.

Eleven months from now we will choose between more money in the pockets of families by electing a Democrat who will increase employment, or more money in the coffers of the government by re-installing Bush, who squanders money like a drunken sailor on shore leave.

And eleven months from now we will choose between electing a leader of principle, which describes any of the ten Democrats now in the race, or re-installing George W. Bush, a political hack who has raised protest, pandering and pessimism to previously-unseen heights.

This Friday, my city holds its annual "Dickens Holiday" celebration, where actors from the local theatre dress up as characters from Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" and walk around as maybe 600 people go Christmas shopping in our touristy downtown. If we re-install George W. Bush, you will quickly learn what a real Dickens Holiday looks like.
