Shouting in a vacuum....
I am tired and hoarse and ill today. I cannot shout any longer. I shouted loud but no one heard me, just as hundreds of other good Americans here have done. We are on the road to perdition and no one cares.

Once we arrive at our destination and see that it is not the beautiful vacation spot we were promised, it will then be too late to turn back. The stench of the poverty and sickness is already in the air. We can smell it.

But I sit here today at the edge of the vacuum and it is real. There is no escape. The Senators and Congressmen pat each other on the back, laughing and cajoling, feeling secure that they have their government position for as long as they have the money to buy it. They sold their souls to the devil and the poor and sick are the ones to suffer from their cruelty.

Yes, I am discouraged and depressed. But fate shall have its reward. I shall never lose my faith but it is being severely challenged.

1. Misery loves company?

I hear ya, bro' (or is that "sis"?). I, too, am getting mighty discouraged. There's only so many times that you can ram your head into the wall before you suffer a concussion.

But the alternative is to go along with the bastards without a fight. I just can't let myself drop that far into the abyss...

2. An enlightened man once said,
"What you reap shall be what you sow."

'nuff said. Have faith, kentuck. Things can't stay bad forever. Eventually people will wake up.

3. There are still a few Paul Wellstone types out here, kentuck

I get inspired everyday here in DU by reading the words of strangers that promote the recognition and solutions to the problems of us all. 'Tis true that we are but an internet bunch that doth wax excessive most of the time but the words are important and at least someone, us including YOU, take some time to share them.

Get a V-8 and a beer. It'll give you a good start for an otherwise miserable day and it will comfort that scratchy dry throat.

4. I hear ya...
...and we're trying to do the 'Paul Revere' thing and warn others.

- Our government...(not just the Republicans)...is for sale to the highest bidder. We need to face this fact or watch our nation wither on the vine.

6. Poem
All I have is a voice
To undo the folded lie,
The romantic lie in the brain
Of the sensual man-in-the-street
And the lie of Authority
Whose buildings grope the sky:
There is no such thing as the State
And no one exists alone;
Hunger allows no choice
To the citizen or the police;
We must love one another or die.

Defenceless under the night
Our world in stupor lies;
Yet, dotted everywhere,
Ironic points of light
Flash out wherever the Just
Exchange their messages:
May I, composed like them
Of Eros and of dust,
Beleaguered by the same
Negation and despair,
Show an affirming flame.

From WH Auden, "September 1, 1939" I quoted this poem at my blog a while back ( http://www.politicalcomment.blogspot.com/2003_11_09_politicalcomment_archive.html#106847206636353141 ), and it's come to mean more and more to me.

7. Hey, kentuck - 1 (800) 839 - 5276 and I.F. Stone, to perk you up:
It's a quote that helped me A LITTLE, but yes it still helped, which was sent to me by a fellow Democrat who uses it to buoy himself up in times of discouragement:

"The only kinds of fights worth fighting are those you are going to lose, because somebody has to fight them and lose and lose and lose until someday, somebody who believes as you do wins. In order for somebody to win an important, major fight 100 years hence, a lot of other people have got to be willing -- for the sheer fun and joy of it -- to go right ahead and fight, knowing you're going to lose. You mustn't feel like a martyr. You've got to enjoy it." -- I.F. Stone.

Also, try that TOLL FREE CAPITOL HILL SWITCHBOARD NUMBER and ask to be transfered to Ted Kennedy's office. He and his staffers will need the encouragement because the FAUX/Limbaugh/freeper contingent will surely be giving them hell. Then, for fun, use that TOLL FREE number again to call some rethug and give that hell right back.
