Nebraska's two U.S. Senators vote against party.
Edited on Mon Nov-24-03 01:00 PM by FATNED
I was born and raised in Nebraska (now in CA) and remain ridiculously attached to my home state. Sadly, it's a heavily Republican state but shows enough leftward flashes to keep me happy (Sen. Bob Kerrey, Sen. Exxon, First U.S. state to ever have both Governor nominees be women, etc.) Now I'm following this cloture vote on C-span and I'm a bit proud and ashamed of Nebraska's senators at the same time. The DEMOCRAT Ben Nelson just voted for cloture and is expected to vote for the Medicare bill. REPUBLICAN Chuck Hagel voted against cloture and I believe is expected to vote against this train-wreck of a bill. Thank God there are still a few Republicans willing to do the Democrats' job.

1. why ben nelson ?
if churck hagel votes that way then it certainly shouldn't hurt ben nelson to vote with hagel who is a republican. unless it has to do with campaign contributions made to them from those who would benefit from the actual bill passing as is the case with dianne feinstein in california. i usually understand ben nelson voting with gop, but can't in this case because hagel voted the other way.

2. Yay, Hagel
It's so gratifying to see some Republicans break away from the thugs.

3. I like Hagel more than Nelson
Hagel also questioned the war (although he voted for it in the end) I don't remember Nelson doing that.

7. Lincoln as well...
College view, LSE grad(1986), in los Angeles since 1991 but I go back often. Headed back for Christmas in a few weeks. Thanks for the kind Cornhusker greeting.

By the way (and apologies if you're not a fan -- it's hard to get extensive coverage here) is Solich going to be out as head coach. What's the thnking there?

And really, what the hell is up with Nelson? Has he ever voted against the president. Oh how I adored Bob Kerrey. Hagel seems like a respectable Repub. (There is such a thing, right?) Kind of in the John McCain mold.
