One thing is obvious: whoever gets the nomination will be brutalized
by the evil folks of the BFEE and ScaifeCo.
case in point: The less than flattering picture of Howard Dean gracing today's DreggsReport-

It seems pretty clear that there are some photogs out there with instructions to get less than flattering and downright sinister pics the candidates.
And they are no doubt going over every inch of every candidates very existence, looking for the slightest flaw that might be exaggerated to "scandal" proportions.

With the worst president in our history, can we expect anything less than the ugliest campaign ever?

1. You're right
I've been reading David Brock's account of how he lied for the Right in order to get Clinton. All that state trooper stuff and everything was made up. It's worth getting his book, Blinded by the Right.

2. The pisser is
President Bush may or may not say all that much himself. He doesn't need to does he? The right wing media, the coulters, the limbaughs the novaks will all join forces to tear him apart.

3. No worse they than are being hurt here.
You know I am right. It can not be any worse, since people scurry around to find and post any dirt on another candidate.

Trust me, it won't get much worse. We see it all here. The worst part is that we make fun of each other.

I have never in my life been called names until I started supporting Dean at this forum. I have seen just about all of life there is to see, raised 5 kids, taught thousands more before retirement. I have been a respected part of the community where I live. But not here. Here I am considered a simple-minded blathering Dean supporter. I have seen fine people who support other candidates treated the same way.

I have been called names here that are just outrageous. And it was undeserved. I think some of the name calling is from the very young, but some is not. Some is from people who should know better.

Our candidates deserve better here.

13. Right you are, madfloridian!
We have people in DU who ONLY post to trash candidates they hate. How sad.

After all, anyone can read these threads, including the KKKRove machine. Why the hell help them???

16. and the sad thing is . . .
that innumerable Bushites are undoubtedly monitoring this board and collecting each and every tidbit, argument, and innuendo that's posted here about every one of the candidates . . . at least those that look like they might have a chance . . . collectively, we're constructing one hell of a Dem-bashing campaign for them . . .

4. Which is why we need someone like Dean or Clark. . .
or maybe even Kerry as the nominee.

People like them who don't hesitate to take the crap, catch it in mid-air - and send it flying right back.

5. personally, I like that picture
I like it because it makes Dean look like he's mad and thirsty for some jugular. Hopefully they keep printing this kind of stuff.

I noticed today that CNN ran campaign ads from everybody, except Clark.

7. Treason is the charge; Diebold is the "trump card."
Rove will leave nothing to chance. Disagreement with Bush = Treason. I fear the American public will buy it, while the media covers Michael Jackson instead. And there is always the ace in the hole, whether that be Diebold (voting machines), the Supreme Court or whatever else it will take. Maybe martial law; maybe invading Syria or Iran. Don't get your hopes up, folks. This will NOT be a clean election. By this time next year, dissent will have either been quashed, or we will have fought back so the American public won't take the Bush tactics any more. If Bush DOES win, dissent is done. If there is even an election; not a sure bet, in my book.

8. Just like the AP (Bushevik) Photogs catch Der Godly Fuhrer
with halos and crosses and crowns dancing about his Divinely Appointed Head.

Can the Old Republic ever hope to be revived with so many vile Busheviks having infiltrated with their Totalitarianism the organizations that helped make us free?

9. The trouble is there is more they can crucify Dean on than
any of the other candidates. HIs Vermont record, his sealing of his Vermont record, his inconsistent positions, his support fot he Confederte battle flag.

10. The nominee is going to catch the brunt of some $250M in slandering ads.
He is going to get Gored more than Gore. He is going to get months of the worst sort of stereotyping and slurring imaginable in an industrialized nation. It's going to be much, MUCH worse than what they get at DU.

18. That's why Clark should have opted out------
he's going to be totally vulnerable to the Rove attacks without having any money to respond to those ads.

14. That's OK
we can do it to them, too. What goes around, comes around. in the end, if we have the better ideas, and can convince the voting public of it, we will win.

15. The thing is, we can't do the same.
The other side controls airwaves, and makes the editorial decisions.

Better ideas are worthless if nobody gets to hear them.

20. Don't forget we can
...control the buzz around us. And frame the arguments the way we want to. I'm 100% sure, with the level of "conversation" that exists on this board, that we are all pretty powerful influences on those we know.

Speak out!

24. Our ideas can
get out there. If it's important, or hot, enough, the airwaves will ring. Otherwise, maybe not. But there are other ways. We do have some important senators, for example, whose words will be covered.

Judging from the never ending string of hate threads generated against him on DU.

their stupid need to hold onto the old establishment power will deprive them of a tangible chance to win the White House.

19. Bring'em On.
Whatever door they open, they allow us to walk through as well. Look at what they did with the War On Terra. It wasn't the Dems. who politicized it, it was the GOP. Now the failed war on terror can be used against them in the light of day. Let use whatever tactic they choose.

22. Of course they will. Bush is good for big corporate profits.
Edited on Tue Nov-25-03 12:45 AM by Cat Atomic
If a Democrat beats Bush next November, they have to reinstitute the Fairness Doctrine immediately, and make some major changes at the FCC. If they want to survive politically, they'll *have* to dismantle the right wing's media machine, and fast.

The corporate media surely knows that.
