Most importantly, the plan is designed so that the private insurers are allowed to negotiate prices with the drug companies, and Medicare is prohibited from doing so.
At the end of the day Medicare will end up with the highest drug prices, no doubt inflated to cover whatever is negotiated with the privates. Think "cost plus contract".

I can accept an overwhelming amount of dems holding their noses and voting for this legislation because it makes them look good back at home. I can't however stand 22 dems and Jeffords of all people voting for cloture. It's one thing to not participate it's another to shut down the efforts of your own side.
