And as for me, I'm not attacking the president because he's attacking
terrorists. I'm attacking him because he isn't attacking terrorists. And that's the problem with this administration. - Clark

I thought that was a brilliant turn. Instead of going on the defensive as other candidates have with "how dare they question our patriotism" and variations thereof, Clark throws it back in his face and uses it against him.

I swear to God I saw admiration in Howard Deans face when he said it.

I imagined a little bubble popping up above his head with the words "How come Trippi didn't think of that?"

Anyway, It was the high point for me.

It was good to see him hitting his stride.

18. If Clark doesn't get the nomination...
who ever does should make Clark their VP. Can you imagine Clark debating Cheney?

Oh my.

3. I might have to move from Kerry to Clark now...
That statement sums up everything that is wrong with Bush foreign policy and more specifically the Rumsfeld pentagon. This is the reason I came to DU at first. As a moderate on Foreign Policy I was fed up with the administration's incompitence and wanted to voice opinions like this one of General Clark's. You go General Clark keep preaching the truth.

5. On MSNBC some talking heads
gave Clark some due.

Of course all the Republican commentators handed the victory to Dean.

Dean could fall off the podium and break the looudest recorded fart in history and Noonan would still declare Howard the winner.

6. Matthew's just said Clark was the winner and had him on.
Of course Matthews's had to try and trip The General up. Didn't work, ha, ha! Guess Tweety hasn't seen 'combat'.

11. "STOP WHINING! YOU NEED DISCIPLINE!"
After the debate, ALL I heard was Clark won the debate, as rightly he did. You and ESPECIALLY Frenchie need to learn to STOP WHINING!

:toast:

Later.

8. Just completely neutralized that commercial
barely out of the bag, no less.

This is THE man. He has a very good way of looking at everything from every angle and sizing it up very quickly. That's what gives him the edge in situations like this.

9. First Post
It is a great line, and one that goes to the heart of the issue.
The Bush gang is willing to bomb and kill till hell won't have it, but certain critical elements of the global terrorist structure are exempt from official criticism or exposure, let alone action. I refer, of course, to "our good friends," the Saudis.
Money talks and Saudi influence is pervasive in this country, in media, business, and academia, but it is the Republicans and the oil industry who naturally benefit most from it.
How long would Saddam have survived after 9-11 if 15 of the 19 hijackers had been Iraqi? if one of Saddam's relatives had sent money to a hijacker? or if Saddam had been known to be bankrolling the worldwide system of religious extremism that nurtures the terrorists?
Saudi complicity in international terrorism, and the administration's constant effort to stonewall it, can be one of key issues that will defeat Bush. Wes Clark is the candidate best qualified to address it directly.

13. Clark is beginning to get it.
He seems to be hitting his stride. Each of his responses at the debate were well thought out and forcefully delivered.

He seemed harder on Bush* than Dean. Clark is becomming a formidable candidate, not just on paper - he was always good there, but in person.

It remains unclear if he can build the needed organization in time to mount a serious challenge for the nomination. News for him has not been good on this front.

If not, then a Dean - Clark ticket is looking stronger every day.

15. "the news"
Edited on Tue Nov-25-03 07:54 AM by OKNancy
The news about the organization is behind the curve. That's the problem. Mainstream news repeats month old stuff.

If you check out the Clark site, you will see that the Clark organization is rolling. I won't even go into all the various groups and programs that have been organized. Over the Christmas college break, thousands of students are going to New Hampshire, there are two RVs that are moving through important states. Here in Oklahoma we just met our new director ( former Graham person) Clark has been working the media effectively.

The campaign is an amalgam of the old and new. DO not discount the grassroots efforts. It's real and it's gaining more and more power.

On edit: I know some Dean people think of it as a compliment, but it really rankles us diehard Clark supporters when you say a Dean/Clark ticket would be .....whatever. Clark is not running for VP, we are not supporting him for VP. I find the comment dismissive and insulting ( wouldn't you if it were reversed?)

17. Although I am
still struggling to decide, I was impressed with Clark last night. I thought he slammed Brokaw pretty good, too.

Whoever wins the nomination is going to have to battle the corporate media, too, and control the message; otherwise, the Democratic nominee will be Gored. Clark is proving to be prepared to handle it.

16. the only way you can attack terrorists
is by addressing the conditions that foment terrorism. Military pursuit of terrorism only swells the ranks of terrorism in common resistance to a foreign threat:
Yankee go home.

21. And it's corollary,
"Bush is attacking people that didn't attack us" should be used, loud and clear, by not only by Clark, IMHO.

But good on Clark for being the first to pack it into one soundbite.
