So I fell in love with Dean the other day
I saw him on TV being interviewed in a limo. He was hit with all kinds of hard questions and difficult situations; he was real, honest and straight up with all his answers. He looks great, with fabulous blue eyes and an irrepressible personality. He's still got a glint of idealism burning in him and I really think he can and should win the nomination over Clark, who is also great but too much of a dark horse for me.

If Dean wins the nomination, I say he'll win the presidency.

1. After last night
I really am starting think the winning combo is Dean/Clark or Clark/Dean.

Dean, in a sense, has an excellent chance of being anyone's VP simply because any candidate would be an idiot to dismiss his grassroots network.

Clark is better in taking on the media head first than Dean...I'm starting to think.

Combine the two and you have a winning combo.

2. I'm with you on that
I'd hate to leave Dennis behind, though. I wonder if there's a cabinet post he might accept, under such a scenario.

4. Dean/Clark
would be a landslide ticket IMHO

I just dont see the depth in clark in anything except the military for him to lead the ticket. He is excelent on the military questions every timem but everytime I have seen him speak on domestic issues he is pure generalities there is just nothing there.

I dont see Dean as a vp for clark if dean would make a decent ticket as a CP for anyone I would say it would be ghep. They would compliment eachother way better IMHO with the strong union support they both bring to the table I think that would be the strongest ticket with Dean as VP.

I see clark as a flash in the pan if his poerformance so far is any indication. As soon as people get over the fawning over a military guy to take on bush on national security they will find they are left with nothing else.

Maybe I am wrong thats just my opinion.

5. One think I've noticed about Clark...
...he'd be EXCELLENT in the traditional campaigning sense of 'attack dog'. He's able to counter a hostile interviewer quite well. Typically that's a role not done by the top of the ticket, but by the VP. I give him big props for talking about some "ouch" topics than the media won't touch and for being good at smacking down hostile interviewers...

6. Clark hasn't been attacked and attacked and attacked
and attacked and attacked....except by me, of course. ;-)

Two things bother me about Clark. First, his military mindset is so entrenched within who he is - in the same disciplined way he trained himself not to blink, or his "sleep discipline" he has a rigid outlook about war and success, and overcoming insurgents and terrorism. And it is a formula, as in Viet Nam, that is destined to fail, because it defines the other as an enemy. The Iraqis resist the occupation, the Americans are the terrorists in their country. The other thing that bothers me is he is the DLC's horse to maintain dominant influence with a corporate agenda and Clark, along with Lieberman, has already attested to where his allegiances lie.

It will be very difficult for me to be swept up by his slick packaged performance when I know his candidacy represents the same power brokers within the Democratic party that are responsible for it selling out.

3. I personally have not yet committed to a candidate in the Dem primary,
Edited on Tue Nov-25-03 05:30 AM by Divernan
but I was shocked, I say, shocked, and impressed last weekend to note that my SO's teenage son, formerly an enthusiastic member of the Young Republicans, now has a Dean for President bumper sticker proudly displayed on his car's bumper. Haven't had a chance to talk with him about it yet. I also heard that this high school senior is getting bombarded at home (unlisted phone number) by military recruiters, and has become pretty adept at brushing them off and hanging up! No fool he!

ON EDIT:
I just remembered Bill Clinton's great talk at that outdoor rally in Iowa earlier this year - urging us all to get involved with the primary and"fall in love" with a candidate, but after the primary , uniting behind the winner - that's what I will do - ANYBODY BUT BUSH!

7. I remember the day I fell in love with Dean - like most Dean supporters
I was pretty much disenfranchised with the whole election possibilities (ie anyone being able to wage a convincing war against the Bush machine) until Dean.

His announcement to run for president hooked me. He is the real thing. He may not always come across that way on tv, but he is honest, straightforward, direct, and principled. I visit his website frequently (too frequently) to get updates and to share in the enthusiam of 510,000 registered supporters whenever we get more supporters or dollars committed.

He has it for me. President Dean. Clark has a good place in his cabinet (Department of Defense?), Edwards would make a great Head of Education, There should be a cabinet position for the EPA (as Dean has committed to see happen - don't know who should head it) and Dennis Kucinich's idea for a Dept of Peace should happen - and he should head it. VP? Carol Mosely Braun.

That's my White House wish list. www.deanforamerica.com
