"He doesn't work well with others"--said by Gephardt
Edited on Tue Nov-25-03 11:23 AM by cally
During last nights debate, Gephardt said that *, "does not work well with others." It got a huge gasp and then a laugh. I think that line is a theme for the Democratic Party and would have resonance with the American voters. Bush ran, in part, with the understanding that he would change the tone in Washington and be bi-partisan. Instead, he's run roughshod over democracy.

Then there is the foreign affairs, where he's alienated most, if not all, nations on this earth. Americans want someone who can listen to others and work together. Americans want exchange of ideas, moderation, and compromise. They don't like zealots. I think this phrase sums up much of what is wrong with this maladministration.

on edit: Fellow DUers corrected me. It was Gephardt who said it, so I corrected my post. Thanks for the info.

8. kerry has talked about it many times
in fact it's one of the biggest points he makes when discussing foreign policy. though in bush's case it goes with just about everything.

yup. bush is a total failure. and this message is simple enough for people to get. they know what it means to "not work well with others". so without knowing specifics of what is going on, but knowing things are getting bad, they can connect the two and see it's bush's fault.

10. I laughed out loud when he said that
Probably the best line of the night. It characterized Bush as a child, and a bullying, isolationist one at that.

11. Exactly
It points out his childish behavior in a joking way. I love the line.

12. What a hoot!
I've said a lot of uncharitable things about him, and I still think that he doesn't have the personality for the executive, but I've got to say that he's gotten off some of the most resonant zingers of the campaign. This was positively electifying, and he delivered it pretty well.

Whoever's writing his quips is doing a good job; the whole long sentence leading up to it was perfectly capped by this statement, and the audience's reaction was one of those moments of group joy that remind us what it's like to be a part of something larger.

This definitely has the legs to be a recurring refrain.

15. another good one is "he's a hard guy to help"
talking about how he has tried to cooperate with Bush, which most people understand the opposition is supposed to do, for the good of the country.

16. I think you are on to something, cally
* doesn't work well with others and we should hammer that in addition to all that he has done to destroy our economy, our health system, our relationships worldwide and all the rest. But *'s failure to work WITH anyone outside his own twisted criminal loop is very evident and should be advertised as such.

He lies, he steals, he starts fights with his peers and he is generally unable to complete assigned tasks. That is the picture of * in my mind.
