Senate sends Medicare bill to president By Ellen Beck United Press International

WASHINGTON, Nov. 25 (UPI) -- The Senate voted 54-44 Tuesday to approve the $395-billion Medicare prescription drug bill and sent it to President Bush, who has said he is eager to sign it into law.
"Today marks a truly historic advancement for America," said Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn.
Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson, R-Texas, said she supported the bill, which passed the House 220-215, even though it was not perfect.
"I'm voting yes because we must start, because senior citizens do not have benefits for prescription drugs. We must start. No one says this is perfect," she said.
"This bill is deeply flawed," argued Minority Leader Tom Daschle, D-S.D., and urged Democrats to reject the bill.
