Lies and the lying liars who get elected Governor
Edited on Tue Nov-25-03 01:01 PM by Snellius
Found on Left I's blog:

Never underestimate the power of anti-Communism, even at a time when the "bogeyman du jour" is "terrorism." Newly-elected California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger thought it important enough to say this in his brief inaugural address:

"...an immigrant like me, who, as a boy, saw Soviet tanks rolling through the streets of Austria"

Earlier, he had this to say in a speech to the Republican convention:

"Growing up, I saw Communism with my own eyes. When I was a boy, the Soviets occupied Austria, I saw their tanks in the streets."
...
However, it turns out that historians ... now tell the Los Angeles Times ... that it was, in fact, virtually impossible for Arnold to have remembered seeing Soviet tanks (nevertheless "Communism"):

1. goddamn it!
what's wrong with these people?

it's starting to remind me of Nixon's callous disregard for the truth.
"I was there when the bombs were falling," he used to say of his service in the Pacific during WWII.

Turned out he was never anywhere near the front, never in danger.

Reagan made self-serving statements, too. But he got to stay home and make movies. When he went on a tour to entertain troops he got booed off the stage!

"Bring 'em on!" indeed.

5. Reagan once made a comment about his service in WWII
It seems he confused his role in a movie where he was an American pilot with reality. Probably an early manifestation of his Alzheimers disease.

2. "Lies" and "Truth" have no practical meanings in Imperial Amerika
From a propaganda viewpoint, we have now enetered Orwell's "1984".

Of course Arnie lied. He's a Bushevik and a friend to the Imperial Family. They can say and do damned near anything and get away with it.

There is no "truth" so factually provable that it can't be obfuscated with one mere pass through the 24/7 cycle of Party-Loyal Right-Wing Sub-Media and the Corporate TV Pravda that dances to it's Orwellian tune.

There is no lie or act so odious, nor red-handed, that it couldn't be washed away clean as a mountain stream by a few quick blasts of the same.

Weep for the Old American Republic. It's like may never be seen again, and certainly not in our lifetimes.

3. You know, when I heard that, I wondered, "when were there soviet tanks
in Austria?" And then thought, hmm, maybe I've forgotten that.

I have to keep my guard up.

4. His biography says...
... he was born around the end of July, 1947. While Russian tanks may have been in Austria in 1945 as part of the allied forces, they certainly were not there to take over Austria, and he most assuredly wasn't around to see them.

However, perhaps his geography is no better than Dubya's. He would have been nine years old or so when the Soviets invaded Hungary and might have been visiting there.
