Rank the candidates
It's been a while since I saw one of these threads, so I thought I'd see where things stack up for most people. Things have changed quite a bit in the landscape since I last did one. I know my views keep changing and in a few days this list could be totally obsolete.

Right now, I'd take any one of them over Bush. Here's my ranking of the candidates:

1) Dean
1) Braun
1) Sharpton

Yep, three way tie in my mind right now

4) Kucinich
5) Kerry
6) Edwards
7) Gephardt
8) Lieberman
9) Clark

How do they stack up with you?

Only one of these gus is not associated with any secret societies...
Kucinich

They scare me. NWO, Freemasons, Illuminatti, Skull & Bones, Tri-Lateral Commission. If you are not a member you do not become President. Period.

That aside, I think a Dean/Clark ticket is the ticket.

26. Lieberman is the ELECTED Vice President!
He has a record as a solid Democrat on many issues. His not being a cultural leftist is obviously what's important about being a Democrat these days to so many at DU. It should never be forgotten that Senator Lieberman SHOULD BE our Vice President today had it not been for the SCOTUS decision. He's not my top choice, but ranking him at the bottom of the pack is the same as saying the party of JFK is "bad" as they shared many of the same views culturally. Of course, I am sure many here would say that Herbert Marcuse would have influenced JFK as well. :eyes:

45. Difference between JFK and Lieberman.....
One was in the 60s, another in the 21 Century. TIMES change, political ideology change. Kennedy was liberal in his time, today he'd be a moderate to right of center Democrat. Today, Lieberman is a right of center Democrat, THAT will not win an election. You've got to offer up differences between Bush and the Dem candidate, Lieberman is the ONLY candidate that does not.

59. That's just so wrong
Kennedy was a liberal in his time? Only the far right thought Kennedy was a liberal. Hubert Humphrey sure didn't think so. The DUers of the fifties and early sixties were sure not in Kennedy's corner. By the way, I'm not surprised at your response. Your avatar? Kennedy hated all Karl Marx stood for. Marxism has never worked ANYWHERE it's been tried. Oh...but REAL marxism has never been tried....right? The Marxists on this board prove it would be all the same: totalitarian thought policing and centralized power to do the work of "the people" (the people that agree with the Marxists!)......

15. Did Lieberman..
change his mind on the Medicare issue? It seems as though last week on Inside Politics he was talking to Judy Woodruff and supporting it, saying that seniors have been waiting for drug benefits for 10 years and that we had to deliver. Then yesterday, he said he opposed the bill. Did I miss something?

Not much change from last week, except that Kucinich & Edwards have flipped, as have Gephardt & Kerry.

Kerry and Braun both occupy the lower tiers of my ranking pretty much because I feel like they haven't done a good job of defining themselves. Granted, in a nine-way race it's very difficult to get your message out, but I had always been under the impression that Kerry was going to be a force of nature on the campaign trail. Hopefully his recent staff shake-ups will help, but quite frankly I think he may be running out of time. The primaries are still 2 months off, and that's enough to time to start turning things around, but he needs to start doing that NOW.

On a serious note. I have met a few other Texas liberal Democrats online. I often think the three of us should get together for :grouphug: therapy. ;) I am happy to know there is a fourth.

I really can't rank the others right now. Kerry was my second choice for the longest time, but within the past couple of weeks he has lost that spot. Since then, I haven't really thought about how I would rank them.

I'm really mad about this. I just read this 15 minutes ago, and I'm really angry. I'll get over it soon, but I'm going to stew for a little while.

Healthplan: Do you think consumers should be able to sue their HMO?

Dean: No, I don't think that is helpful. I think lawsuits in general aren't helpful. I favor arbitration.

Dean falls way back, after reading this today:

Healthplan: Do you think consumers should be able to sue their HMO?

Dean: No, I don't think that is helpful. I think lawsuits in general aren't helpful. I favor arbitration. But we do need external review. In Vermont, we have a panel that works with the state government where someone who feels they are not getting proper care from their HMO can appeal. Ultimately, an ombudsman is called in and (where appropriate) the banking and insurance commissioner enforces the HMO to grant the care. I think that is fine. I think that is good. I think that system is much better than lawsuits. The reason is that system takes care of a problem before it gets out of hand. In order to file a lawsuit you have to show damages. Well what's the point of waiting until the patient is damaged so that you can file a lawsuit? I prefer arbitration up front before damage is caused, rather than lawsuits afterward. It certainly has been used in our state and it seems to be used successfully.

winning.

1. Kerry - rumors of his campaign's death have been greatly exaggerated.

2. Gephardt - May well be the last man standing, surprisingly.

3. Edwards - May yet have a decisive impact, potentially explosive.

4. Clark - Impressing more lately, one to watch closely.

5. Lieberman - running on inertia only.

6. Dean - The phoniest of the bunch, a fraud that had good timing.
