A gift of consolation to my DU brothers and sisters.. in such screwy times
"The only kinds of fights worth fighting are those you are going to lose, because somebody has to fight them and lose and lose and lose until someday, somebody who believes as you do wins. In order for somebody to win an important, major fight 100 years hence, a lot of other people have got to be willing -- for the sheer fun and joy of it -- to go right ahead and fight, knowing you're going to lose. You mustn't feel like a martyr. You've got to enjoy it." -- I.F. Stone.

A pal and fellow activist sent me this, which he uses to cheer himself up during glum times. I'm needing it myself, this morning...

Love and Peace to you all. You are my solace.

2. Peace
After the shame of "Democrats" voting for the Medicare bill, I'm feeling the way Christopher Darden said he felt after the OJ verdict; I think he said something like, "I feel like my life ain't worth a plug nickel".:-(

3. Thank you
At other times it has been fought "for the sheer fun and joy of it" but I am not having much fun these days. That being said, it IS a good fight and very worth the sacrifice we all may make to keep it up.

4. Calimary, we must be on the same wave length this morning. I feel
tired, sad and I am wondering why I care when it would be so easy just to say screw it and bury my head in the sand.

I know this too will pass, but it seems that so many don't care about what we are doing in Iraq, indeed don't even bother to find out, unless it costs them money.

I always get rather blue around the holidays, but this time its biting even deeper.

I am so ashamed and disgusted with our government and what they are doing in our name.

5. Izzy Stone would know about that, too...
If you want to learn about a lot of 20th century history you probably haven't heard about much, look up Izzy Stone's work between about 1930 and his death in 1989.

His investigations and writings on fascist Americans and Corporations that backed Hitler during the 1930's and 1940's are indispensible for those trying to understand the composition of the upper crust today.

Most of his stuff is out of print and often hard to find, but I've found some real gems of his at secondhand stores.
