Liberals fight back; pundits are shocked
http://www.workingforchange.com/article.cfm?ItemID=16016

The alarming rise in liberal aggression is now the subject of regular bulletins from pundits of varying persuasions and temperaments. As certain disquieting elements converge, portents of doom can no longer be ignored: The same progressives who once fit the wimp stereotype are answering back when attacked. The same Democrats who could find no voice last year are bellowing now. The most outspoken challenger to George W. Bush is leading in key primary states. And certain liberal authors who rudely call a liar a liar are selling thousands of books.

...

Warnings about this disturbing phenomenon are often published in the pages of The New York Times. On Nov. 12, for example, Nicholas Kristof fretted, "Liberals have now become as intemperate as conservatives, and the result -- everybody shouting at everybody else -- corrodes the body politic and is counterproductive for Democrats themselves." On this topic, Mr. Kristof's views are indistinguishable from those of his neighbor, David Brooks. A neoconservative who arrived at The Times several months ago, Mr. Brooks worries these days about the "war that poisons our airwaves, clogs up our best-seller lists and stagnates our politics."

...

During those years, and in particular during the Clinton era, accusations of immorality, criminality and even treason became so commonplace in Republican discourse that hardly anyone bothered to protest. None of these worthies piped up. Where were the righteous critics when their pleas for civility might have mattered? Mostly they were working for publications -- The American Spectator, The Weekly Standard and The Wall Street Journal, among others -- that specialized in smearing political adversaries, with particular emphasis on all persons associated with the Clinton administration. They lack the credentials to bleat piteously about Bush-bashing and unbridled partisanship.

9. Love the ones who hide in the dark.
Republicans are easy, uneducated cowards. The real fun of the hunt are the Neocons. Hide in the dark, travel only under cover of the meda, are not missed by anyone.

repubs are spare ribs, Neo's are filet.

4. Except for Seattle - City of Wimps
People in more enlightened communities should have been fighting back years ago. I guess better late than never.

5. How DARE we!
I repeat, how DARE we "heap contempt and calumny upon the President of the United States" (as Joltin' Joe paraphrased Byron York's poor widdle injured innocence  ).

(He said, nonchalantly slipping on his brass knuckles and casually looking around for a bigger shovel to do more heaping with... )

8. When you are the guys
that hold the peace signs, it takes an extraordinary circumstance to come to consider violence. That is why the pukes have it all now. They are more than happy to use violence to intimidate opposition. Just remember JFK, MLK, malcolm, Robert, and Wellstone, Florida. Passive resistance has been a failure in modern times. A world protest of an illegal war meant nothing. I know the flames are coming but I'm sharpening the bayonnet.

11. Who woulda thunk it
That is why when our own -Edwards and Clark use the anger meme against our own, I could slap them around the block. ;-)

Imagine Edwards posturing as if he was so above it when he was leading the bandwagon against Dean last debate. Guess he didn't get any leverage from it. And Clark, speaking with passionate intent, had the nerve to criticize Dean's anger.

13. a quote that fits
"you must first stand up for yourself if anyone is going to believe you'll stand up for them."

We have to show the RW that we'll fight them every inch before the rest of America will believe that we'll stand up for them. Look at the 2002 "spineless Democrat" election. I tend to think that Dean's surge is a backlash against that sort of thinking, and despite myself not being a Dean supporter, I think it's kind of on the right track.

18. I think many of us
in the democratic base have been screaming about this for some time. The total frustration being felt at the impotence of our leaders; the atmosphere that has enveloped our country that any dissent is unpatriotic, fueling shrub's poll numbers and leaving our jaws dropped to the floor. Well screw em'!! I'm not taking it anymore! Screw the voices of reason! We can't reason with evil! The repukes will do ANYTHING to retain power and I am just as willing to do anything to wrestle it away from them!

19. I've got a solution
Why don't the conservatives just tone it down a bit? God, why are they so angry? They control everything.

Smile, you stupid conservatives! You rule the world... for now. :)

20. What about "turn the other cheek".
Quite often, when I'm getting the better of critics who know that I'm a minister, they complain that I'm not "turning the other cheek", to which I reply something like: "In case you hadn't noticed, I'm not a great believer in "Turn the other cheek". Sorry about that. NOT ! People who follow Christ's life to the end know that when Jesus himself was on trial and was struck on the cheek, rather than follow what appeared to have been his own teaching and turn the other cheek, he demanded that the soldier who struck him either prove him deserving of such treatment or cease and desist from it.
John 18:22-23 'When he had said this, one of the police standing nearby struck Jesus on the face, saying, "Is that how you answer the high priest?" Jesus answered, "If I have spoken wrongly, testify to the wrong. But if I have spoken rightly, why do you strike me?" '

See why Christians who are serious about following Christ ought to be
Liberal Democrats and give Republicans the hell they deserve.

22. I know this is off-topic, but
I remember watching a program on PBS regarding the Life of Jesus. In it, they addressed the "turn the other cheek" phrase. Several theoligans said that contrary to showing a more meek side, "turn the other cheek" was really more a show of defiance; a "you cannot break me" sort of stance. Quite interesting.
