Who Is Your Favorite VoterVirgin? |
|
A VoterVirgin is someone who is eligable to vote, yet has not yet exercised their right to do so.... There are also reinstated VoterVirgins, those who have not voted in a while, but are ready to recommit to voting.
I know everybody knows a VoterVirgin. VoterVirgins are EVERYWHERE. They come in all sorts of sizes, shapes , and colors.
What I want to know is:
Who is your favorite VoterVirgin and why?
What are YOU doing to love them into voting in 2004?
Peace. Teresa www.votervirgin.com

2000 snapped me back to attention.
I've been making not-so-subtle reminders to my friends about what happens when one doesn't vote. It isn't good.

hasn't voted since '88, because she doesn't feel informed. I'm going to inform her and help her register; she'll definately be voting in 2004. :7
Editing to include myself: Turning 18 and will be voting for the first time in the general election!

7. Mother/Daughter VoterVirgin Team?! |
|
Wow! That is a powerful duo!
Congrats on loving your mom back to the polls.
I have a particular fondness for the re-instated VoterVirgins. Eking away at apathy is a passion of mine.
If you want to participate, you can both registr fot the VoterVirgin Class of '04 and we will send you a "graduation" certificate to commemorate your 2004 ballot casting. Also will be polling the V V s to give them a voice with the candidates. FYI: Super concerned about privacy. You will not be sold out or spammed incessantly.
Thanks for keeping me inspired with your story!
Peace, Teresa www.votervirgin.com

He's one of those "there's no difference between the 2 parties so why bother" type people, but he realizes how much at stake this time around (finally) and is going to do it next fall (and in the primaries).

9. my soon-to-be 19-yr-old nephew. |

He didn't vote in the CA gubernatorial recall election, and when I asked him why not, he said, "because it's stupid." Hmmm. What to do, what to do.
He has some social developmental problems, and I doubt he'll be getting a job or moving out of home any time soon. But I believe his taking this civic duty seriously might help him to grow up.
'Course, that could just be a pipe dream. He is so intelligent. He could do anything he wants. He just hasn't the desire to pursue anything seriously except adolescent things -- action figures, video games, and his ever-growing collection of toy stuffed wolves.

let me know how it works. I did a lot of informal market testing and was SHOCKED to discover how effective it was to call non-voters a Virgin. I mean, after preaching, educating, begging, etc, for years, it was totally eerie how quickly people filled out the voter registration card under the V V banner. In particular, the young men LOVE it and will wear the t-shirts proudly.
I love that life is really just a big experiment, so please let me know how he responds.

Apparently growing up with an activist turned her off. I should be glad she didn't become a young Republican. :D
This year she had a medical crisis that led to the loss of one eye, and roughly $100,000 in medical bills. I drove her to see the specialist every six weeks. It's a 3 hour drive. Three hours, alone in the car with activist mom, sitting under mom's Dean button, pinned up over the rearview mirror. Three hours of listening to activist mom talk about change to the US health care system, and how we can begin to make it happen in the voting booth in 2004.
To her credit, she didn't leap out of the car. Instead, she said she would vote - on one condition - that I run for NH House again, and put a sign in her yard.
She's coming with me to meet Howard Dean on Sunday. I think she's (eek) gearing up to lose her virginity....
I'm so proud of my little girl. }(
