Just got a call from my pentacostal buddy.
He told me that Pat Robertson on his 700 Club show denounced pResident Bush and the Medicare bill as shameless election year pandering and harmful to the elderly.

Has anyone else heard or read anything about this?

My pentacoastal buddy's a bit unusual in that he's still a true-blue Democrat and he told me he couldn't believe what he heard.

Is there any truth to this?

4. Actually, it is possible
IIRC, didn't Robertson get all cheesed off at Poppa Bush before the '92 election because he (Bush Sr) was going to cut some of Israel's military aid?

Nothing will stand in the way of Robertson's trying to blow up a nuke to bring Jesus back, not even party affiliation.

8. I've been doing Google news searchs and so far nothing.
But I've known my friend for over 20 years (we were drinking buddies before he found God and even after for a couple of years.)

All I can say is that he was totally flabbergasted.

2. Well all this spending is not a GOP thing at all.
All my father's life he was in a rave about SS and the poor man got so ill and could not work and he was right, they would not pay him SS. Said he would have to get into a wheelchair, He had MS and fought it as long as he could. He saved and payed his way in his retirement and health care. No one did help him and he was in that 70% tax group, before Kennedy gave a good tax break. He was a real old time rep not like this right wing group we have now. My father even hated spending money on bombs. Said you can not build a society on arms. I can see why so many of his own party are mad at Bush.

3. If the elderly members of the 700 club
are paying more for insurance/rx drugs and health care, that means less $$ that fraud of a preacher will shill them out of them...so it makes sense.

11. If freepers are any indication
Hey, they were actually rooting for the dems on this one.

The DUers are going to flood the Senate Democreeps with e-mails protesting this Bill. The Democreeps in the Senate are probably not going to pass this.

Go DU? Rah, rah rah?!?

I'm so conflicted!!! ;^)

The Democrats - America's last, best hope!

I should be smiling and laughing at making such a ridiculous comment, but I'm not. Thank you, GOP, for disappointing me yet again.

17. Pat's CBN Web site gives the Medicare bill passage a cold report...
But from the standpoint of the bill's potential cost to taxpayers, not from what it might do to seniors.

Ahh, that good old fundamentalist "compassion."

Senate Passes Medicare Overhaul with Huge Price Tag
By David Brody
Congressional Corresondent
November 26, 2003

CBN.com – WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Senate has officially passed the biggest change to Medicare since it was created almost 40 years ago, and many of the country's senior citizens may benefit. But it comes with a huge price tag.

<snip>

And conservatives aren’t the only ones warning that the actual cost of the bill may be higher than that. That figure is what is budgeted for the bill, not what the actual cost may be. As drugs grow more costly and Baby Boomers retire, congressional budget forecasters say this new entitlement could cost at least $2.4 trillion over the next two decades.

All of these astronomical figures have many inside the GOP very concerned. They are wondering what ever happened to fiscal constraint, and this multimillion entitlement program does nothing to ease those concerns.

19. makes sense. He's a dominion thinker, a luster after armageddon
so you should spend/use up/burn all your money/resources/enemies
to help the apocalypse come. They really believe this so I am sure
it explains how they 1) want to kill the social net because no one
is going to need it when Jesus comes back next year and 2) they are
evil.
