MSNBC Cancelling Buchanan & Press
Damn - the networks just are not going to let the left have an opinion in the mainstream media. They have rendered Crossfire useless at 1/2 hour and on earlier - I always really liked Bill Press - thought he was fair. They haven't even found a replacement yet!!!! Nope, nothing but Bush propaganda 24/7 - along with spurts of Michael Jackson, Kobe, and Laci Peterson.

46. I agree.
Scarborough is the worst! He looks like a kid I used to know in my youth who liked to pitch hoseshoes and eat Knox gellatin for fun. His home was occupied by no parents, but aunts and uncles. He liked to collect pennies and little plastic army men. As I recall, his goal in life was to find a 1909 VDBS penny.

He was all right, and I hung out with him now and then, but he's who comes to mind every time I see Scarborough--a beady-eyed lizard-kid.

I remember that none of us in my small hometown ever went to that door to beg for candy on Halloween because (and I apologize to all witches) we thought his aunts rode brooms.

I wonder what he's doing now. I know he suffered a brain injury on Main street thirty years ago while all the lawn mowers were powered up, up and down the street, but I know he survived. I just wonder.

6. Muther &&CKER!
I don't like Pat, but he has his own mind and speaks it. And Press is a voice of reason in the current swamp of media.

One less show to watch. It's really starting to feel like wartime as all I watch and hear are on the internet, PBS, NRP, Pacifica, or ....that's it.

FUC* them!

16. I believe it turned out that they lied
about his ratings - they were actually pretty high. I was so pissed when Donahue got cancelled - I wrote them one hell of an e-mail as well as did many other DU'ers - but to no avail. Must be a lot of money in it for them to not care about ratings - just as long as the "message" is getting out - the right one.

17. I wish Donahue had done the show with an audience.
That's Phil's strong point. I think the show would have done better in the ratings had they gone with that format.

There was a bit of poetic justice when that hideous Michael Savage got his show canned.

14. Too bad
That's too bad. Bill Press has always been great and, actually, while not always agreeing with Buchanan, I respect his opinion which is always reasoned and rather independent on many issues. They both probably gave the network ulcers. I'll miss Press a lot....but honestly I'll miss them both with their civil back and forth versus some of the more raucus shows. Go figure.

on cable news. But cable news has become the lowest-common denominator pimp in the media.

It's really sad.

I was even beginning to respect Pad from time to time.

Well, let them go. Some other and more enterprising spirits will come up with better programming. MSNBC has no real direction of its own.

It's funny....Fox is trying (ever so slightly) to be a bit more fair while MSNBC is running to the right to pass them. Tony Snow on Fox actually did a good job Sunday trying to get Hastert to admit that the Medicare bill won't help the vast majority of seniors.

22. I watched Buchanan and Press today....(why, I don't know)
and I am glad they are getting cancelled.

Those two (buchanan & press) were sitting around with a Weekly Standard and a Newsweek reporter discussing the debates. Of course they discussed how Dean walked in as a winner and walked out as a winner. Than they ridiculed Kerry and his wife. Then Mr. Press got up the courage to say that he felt that another person that had done well was Clark. He said that he had really come into his own. The others looked shocked that he even had brought up his name, and it looked to me that Press was totally afraid to have even mentioned it, eyes cast down and the whole nine yards!

To conclude, Buchanan said something like well what do you think of Clark to the guy from the Weekly Standard...and that guy said, well you know he messed up when he first started running. It's too late for him now. Then the other guy chimed in, yes that how should have started out, the way that he was last night. Then the other said, well he couldn't even make up his mind on the war, blah blah......

Anyhow the bottomline is that Buchanan and the other two reporters totally dismissed Clark...and then Press meekly agreed.

It was unreal.

I'M GLAD THEY ARE GETTING CANCELLED...TWO LESS MEDIA WHORES IS BETTER THAN NONE!

I know the media well......and Press was scared today as he brought Clark up. If you didn't see it, then you can't relate. I saw what I saw, and it was stunning!

Rove couldn't risk them being around in the campaign.

So I wasn't surprised by his attitude. He never wants to use the military for any reason whatsoever, heh. He was aganist taking any action against bin Laden if it meant going outside the US to get him. And you can throw in WW2, needless to say.

I don't think he hates Bush, though, not so much that you could tell, anyways. He will defend him up and down as long as it doesn't conflict his big three "issues": Israel, abortion and any involvement outside the country that isn't strictly buisness.

38. Two reasons why MSRNC was told to dump Buchanan & Press
1) Though Pat is conservative as Hell, he's not a PNAC'er and has taken several public stances against the PNAC/Bush agenda. Republicans must not be allowed to see any of their party's "stars" oppose Der Fuhrer.

2) Buchanan argued with his liberal cohosts and guests fairly reasonably, as opposed to the "shout em down and if that doesn't work, cut their microphones" approach of FAUX News. Liberal viewpoints must not be heard on TV, or the brainwashed masses might realize MSRNC has been feeding them a steady diet of BULLSHIT.

On the other hand, this frees up Pat's time for a third party Presidential run which can split the right wing vote

Go Pat Go!!

39. totally agree
I dislike Buchanan's politics, but I'll give him this - he isn't a screamer, doesn't shout down his guests, doesn't get hysterical at the drop of a hat, and doesn't slobber all over Bush and cabal constantly.

This was the only MSRNC show I watched just because it wasn't a couple of screaming idiots shouting over each other. It was civilized, generally well-informed discourse and naturally we can't have that on cable news.

Cable news continues its slide into celebrity sensationalism, shark attacks, and all-Bush-all-time time whoredom.
