2. The thing is this
It's the leadership. Where were the commercials? Where was the campaigning? The Dem leadership expects everyone but them to do their fighting for them. Then they are so shocked when they lose. They offer no alternative vision and are surprised when some Dems peal away in favor of a bad Republican vision.

That's what is happening. That's whats been happening since 2001.

4. Daschle sux - but it's a short lived victory for Bush
once the poop hits the fan

Even if re-selected, his second term would be a nightmare

By failing to restrain federal spending now, warns the Wall Street Journal, congressional Republicans and the president are increasing the political pressure they will face to raise taxes in the future.

* The final tallies show that overall spending grew by almost 9 percent for the 2003 fiscal year ending September 30, and by 21 percent over the past two years.

* This is before the $400 billion Medicare prescription drug benefit and this year's energy and omnibus spending bills

7. I agree
All these problems will come home to roost in Chimpy's second term. That being said, I still don't want him to win!

6. have posted my rant elsewhere, but
the fact is the Democrats are NEVER going to get rid of the neo-cons until we clean up our own leadership. Daschle, Gephardt, and even Diane Feinstein have become so co-opted by the republicans they've lost sight of who they are and more importantly who they represent. The same goes for the Democratic Party leadership: it's time for Terry McAuliffe to go--no question about it. He's been responsible for so many Democrat losses it's a wonder he's still around.

It's high time those of us who are responsible for putting them where they are say it loudly and clearly: "represent our interests or we'll see to it you get the hell out."

Sorry, no more Mr. Nice Guys please.

8. Sure would be nice if we had a national message.
I mean, the Republicans are disciplined, almost to the point of lockstep, but when it comes down to it, they have an agenda that almost all of them support. We need a strong party leader and an agenda (perhaps a la Contract with America) that all Democrats can push. Will it get better when we get a nominee - a definite leader? Probably. Until then, it would be nice if someone like Nancy Pelosi would step up, set a national agenda for Democrats, and stick it to the GOP.

9. IMO it's because politics has become a team sport
Many voters will not see, hear, nor speak of any evil about a Democrat during election time... after all, they're the lesser evil, right?

We get the leaders we elect. No more, no less.

10. 1988 all over again?
Three words: Catastrophic health coverage.

Acting hastily bit the Republicans (and Democrats) in the ass in 1988 in enacting Federal catastrophic health coverage.

Reagan was ending his Presidency. Bush is entering an election year. There could be another AARP insurgency similar to 1988 coming up.
