1. I dont recall exactly, but when the unemployment rate is teetering around
10% you had nowhere to go but down. And he didnt have NAFTA and outsourcing to deal with on such a large scale.

I know Reagan ended with a large net gain in jobs.

2. Inflation
Inflation was so bad and it finally slowed down. That was Carter's appointment of Volcker though. Poor Jimmy, he took all the crap, made alot of right moves, and Reagan got the credit.

Unemployment dropped a whole point or so. Maybe interest a bit too. It was just enough of an improvement. And Geraldine Ferraro was the VP candidate. I don't think that helped at all.
