BREATHTAKING Display of Bush's COMPLETE Mastery over the US Media.
Gang,

Stick a fork in us.

I mean, I hear and see Orwell and Huxley mentioned here and elsewhere on almost a daily basis in describing the times we live in now. Yeah, yeah, yeah, but...

Last week, Bush's pending disastrous UK trip was "coincidentally" saved from even minimal damage by the arrest of Michael Jackson just as British protestors filled the streets.

Almost every paper in the country did indeed have some editorial slamming the Medicare Bill as a death blow to the program, a sop to the insurance companies, and a boot up the ass of seniors. Now that the Republicans ripped victory out of the jaws of a sure defeat from the Democrats, the media has changed its tune and can't stop crowing about what a great "victory" this is for Bush.

Reality: bad for seniors, bad for poor and middle class, bad for Americans

Perception: A GREAT POLITICAL VICTORY, therefore...

THE MEDICARE BILL IS GREAT!

GEORGE BUSH IS ON A ROLL!

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20031126/ap_on_go_pr_wh/medicare_bush&cid=544&ncid=716

WASHINGTON - President Bush (news - web sites) is on a roll: The economy is roaring, consumers are optimistic, a prescription drug benefit for 40 million Americans awaits his signature, and his campaign war chest is growing ever-fatter.

THE ECONOMY IS ROARING?

IS IT? IS IT FUCKING ROARING ALONG AND WE'RE ALL OPTIMISTIC AND JUST LAUGHING OUR FUCKING HEADS OFF AT ALL THE GREAT TIMES WE'RE ENJOYING RIGHT NOW?

THE MEDICARE BILL IS CALLED "A BENEFIT."

Sorry, I know the media has been his lapdog for quite few years now, but I'm really starting to think about fucking leaving this country if I have to keep reading headlines like this one...

GOOD at all and are less than last year this time. I can't specify the
details 'cause I'm not good with numbers, but this last weekend was
horrible for them. Not just his dept. but the whole co.

5. Time to forget about Liberal vs Conservative Media, innit?
Is it not time to recognize that we have Fascist Media in this country? If you look at the 14 Defining Characteristics of Fascism as compiled by Free Inquiry magazine, link, you come to #6:

Controlled Mass Media - Sometimes...media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. (Emphasis added.) Censorship, especially in war time, is very common.

"Sympathetic media executives" is a gross understatement IMO. "Aiding and abetting" come to mind, along with "enabling" as more apt terms.

And if you get into Mussolini's take on the partnership of government and corporations, it seems to me that you come up with The Fascist Media.

What say you?

:freak:

13. I like a good conspiracy theory
as much as anybody else, but do you seriously think that Michael Jackson was arrested solely to divert atention from GW*'s trip to England?

15. As was Kobe Bryant's arrest. In both instances prosecutors moved
before they were really ready. That's why these guys had to come in, post bond, and then wait for charges to be filed. Unbelievable. There was a timing to both of them.

16. You're right!!!!
There was someone on CNN this morning saying that this is unheard of--for them to not have filed any charges yet.

17. If you didn't believe it last week, believe it today.
CNN's poll today: "Has your opinion of the Michael Jackson case changed."

Amazing, ain't it. First - the assumption that he is guilty based on last week's hype. Second, less than a week later, the new propaganda is "is the case shaky? Why haven't they filed charges?"

I have a friend who is very far from a political junkie. He's rather disengaged, in fact. Yet, I spoke with him Sunday and HE brought up the suspicious nature of the timing of the Jacko crap coinciding with bush's disastrous trip to the UK.

And there's the crux of the matter. Last week was a disaster for bush on ALL fronts: polls down, UK trip embarrassment, lots of death in Iraq, Turkey; Dem candidates gaining traction in the media. You can bet Rove got on the phone with the message "next week better be good for us...or else!"

And what do we see this week? Why, a COMPLETE turnaround for bush, and just in time for discussion at the Thanksgiving dinner table tomorrow! So, enjoy your turkey and Amur-ka's game (football), then, get out and SHOP - the economy is "roaring."

Messaage: bush is great! Things are on track! ALL IS WELL!!!!!

And it's all bullshit.

19. no
no more than Karl Rove could "make" Jackson bugger that little boy.

It's the TIMING.

THey've been sitting on this arrest since March. Jackson's lawyer's been on this particular "nuisance" for Jacko since then. The DA coula sprung into action ANY time, and did precisely when Bush hit British soil.

18. when Brokaw's 2nd topic of debate was "gay marriage" I knew we were f**ked
The media is so obviously behind Bush.

It just gets worse and worse every day, no joke.

Call me pessimistic, but the last week or so I've realized that we're doomed. Nothing we can do will matter because the media has become 100% a cheerleader for the GOP.

It's gone from bad to worse, frying pan into fire.
