Debunking the recent Drudge Report article about Dean
SOLDIERS ANGER OVER DEAN BROTHER 'MILITARY HONORS'

Active duty soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines are upset over being forced take part in a military repatriation ceremony today for remains believed to be those of the non-military brother of presidential candidate Howard Dean, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

"His brother will receive full military honors...flag over the coffin and all!" fumes one soldier, who asked not to be named.

Governor Dean is set to visit to the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC) and the repatriation of his brother to Hickam AFB, Hawaii.

<snip>
The Real Truth
link can be found here at:http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/eBrochure.htm

JPAC was created from the merger of the 30 year old U.S. Army Central Identification Laboratory, Hawaii, and the 11 year old Joint Task Force - Full Accounting. This 425-person organization, commanded by a flag officer, is committed and dedicated to bringing home the nation’s service members and civilians who made the ultimate sacrifice....

Repatriation ceremonies are conducted to honor the sacrifice made by those individuals whose remains have been recovered. As a sign of respect, the remains are placed into an aluminum transfer case and draped with a U.S. flag. An arrival ceremony is held in Hawaii with a joint service honor guard and senior officers from each service. Veterans, community members and local active-duty military often attend the ceremonies to pay their respects as the remains are transported from a U.S. military plane to JPAC's CIL.

32. Calm down. Term "good publicity" only means he gets sympathy from it
Edited on Thu Nov-27-03 02:55 AM by Bucky
A politician can't be unaware that people will be watching this only because he's running for president. But I believe the poster did put the phrase "good publicity" in quotes. I understood the poster to be saying that Dean would use the Republicans' hysterics about it for his ads, not his brother's death.

(edited to clarify my point better)

I was going to post that but you beat me to it!

Yes, it's true. If an article appears on Drudge then it is automatically debunked.

12. And despite what the ALL CAPS thread that just got locked said,
there is NO evidence that Dean influenced anything. In fact, if anyone were to actually THINK about that assertion, they'd find it ludicrous. Dean is an ex-Gov. who has no authority whatsoever, and every branch of govt is currently "owned" by the Repugs. If Dean TRIED to exert some influence, he'd get laughed damn near off the planet.

Here's what the Drudge report says:

JPAC was pressured to not only recover his brother's remains, but to bump Dean's recovery over numerous other MIA's who actually died fighting for their country, a well-placed military source tells the DRUDGE REPORT.

Additionally, JPAC is being pressured to push up Dean's brother's identification ahead of approximately a hundred other service members remains, it is claimed.

----

Notice, there is NOTHING in there (or elsewhere in the article) to imply that Dean is involved in the "pressuring." Mark my words: this is by design. Their propaganda skills are definitely improving. This is the same type of planned innuendo that Bush&Co. have consistenly used to link (conflate) Iraq/Saddam Hussein with 9-11. 'Tain't so, and they can conflate all they want to try to lay down that impression (and unfortunately succeed with all too9 many non-critical readers -- which sadly includes more and more DUers), it doesn't make it so.

Finally, I take it as quite a compliment to my preferred candidate that the only stuff people seem to have on him are lies, or patently but purposeful dishonest innuendo. That applies to the Drudges of the world as well as too many DUers.

Eloriel

16. One must ASSUME that power came into play
Why else would Charlie Dean be bured in Arlington?

Arlington is only for those who were in the military or widows of such. Dean's brother was an anti-war protestor on a photo safari.

This is just another example of power using our tax dollars as it pleases.

And why was my thread locked?

20. I haven't read a damn thing that said he was buried in Arlington..
...Certainly not in that bilge water you posted from Drudge which doesn't mention Arlington at all.

Military honors with a flag does not equal an Arlington burial.

And your thread was locked because you posted the title with EXCESSIVE CAPITALIZATION which is against the rules of the forum.

17. Since apparently he was recovered as part of JPAC your personal opinions..
...don't really count for much, do they?

They have a procedure on honoring those who returned by this method and they followed it.

28. Maybe you should have spent a little more time thinking about why...
...the U.S. Government listed Charles Dean, an alleged "civilian on vacation" in a war zone, as a POW/MIA for almost thirty years.

What's that you said about "facts"?

Facts. Check them. Check them twice. Make them your friends.

22. Not really...your opinion might count as much as mine, but...
...it obviously doesn't count as much as the person in charge of JPAC's procedures for repatriation of remains.

But since we have the opportunity to play dueling opinions, I'll just say that I am of the opinion that trying to take political pot shots at the expense of someone who just found the remains of their brother after 30 years of never really knowing for sure is disgusting whether or not those taking the shots come from within our own party or from swine whores like Drudge.

25. Surely, you're not that dense...
...Charles Dean has been listed among the POW/MIAs since his disappearance nearly thirty years ago.

Think about that VERY carefully, and please take as much time as you think you need.

When you finish connecting the dots, then tell me how a civilian gets listed as a POW/MIA, and gets buried with full military honors.

And please don't EVEN start to tell me it's because his brother was a former governor, or that he's currently running for president.

Is any of this sinking in???
