Come on guys,

We don't need to get banned over worthless flame and lame statements. We're all democrats here with the same cause. Who cares if someone attacks clark with enormous vitrol? Don't swoop down to their level. RATIONALLY debunk their arguments.

Example:

Rational- "I disagree, Clark holds many liberal positions such as being pro-choice, anti-Bush tax cuts, anti-IWR, pro-affirmative action, pro-immigration etc."

Irrational-"Oh yah, well shove it where the sun don't shine you Confederate 'flip flop' Deanie piece of garbage!"

Trust me, I know. I'm a former Dean basher because I saw him as Clark's biggest threat. I would attack the man in order to make my candidate look better in light of the Dean attacks.

That was wrong of me to do.

And after the recent debate, I gained a great deal of respect for Dean because of the way he stood up to the pathetic attacks by Gephardt and Kerry.

So let's just tone it down a notch. I know it's not just Clarkies that are flaming, but let's set an example for other.

We have a great group here on DU, and I would hate to see it decrease due to people not using their minds, therefore getting banned.

The original poster of this thread makes excellent points. It isn't about stifling dissent. It's about improving the method of dialogue used to express it. In other words, choose a manner in which to express yourself so you do not later feel compelled to blame others for your behavior.

Defending does not mean insulting IMO. It means coming up with the facts via links and other credible information that will rebut the attack, e.g., When Clark is attacked for praising Bush...I don't call names. I pull out the actual speech so that others can see that it was taken out of context. That's my approach....the name calling is something I try to stay away from at all times "if possible".

I must say that even with all the candidate bashing that is going on...I have based my decisions on the candidate's themselves, there are a very few posters who set us all off from time to time and we usually regret it afterwords....as I feel this thread is specifically addressing....I hate nothing more than being sucked down to such a crappy level of discourse....

except from a few and the moderators! Thanks guys. Since I found DU from a DEAN convert at a meet-up just in converstation. He told me this is the place to go to learn about politics and discuss them. I have found neither. I have found a predjudice against new people, and I have seen hate being spread!
