Note: This is from Greg Pason, National Secretary of the Socialist Party USA, who knew Jordan well. I abridged this note, taking out irrelevant material. -- Martin
Jordan Fader, a NJ ARA activist died this morning of Meningitis.
Many of the SPers and ARA comrades in NJ and NYC worked with Jordan, and thanks to Jim Schaefer and the Socialist Party comrades in North Carolina, Jordan and the other ARA comrades who were with him had a place to crash and support during his last hours.
I first met Jordan when Andrea and I were organizing the North Jersey ARA chapter last December. I spent many hours traveling with him.
SP Arts & Culture comrades Angel & Carlos crammed into his Jeep on our trip w/ NJ ARA to Lewiston, Maine, to support the Lewiston Samali population up there when they were being harassed by the police and local government. Andrea & I spent many hours with him yelling a the NAZI's who meet in our county at the JOUAM meeting hall. Jordan helped us staff the "Men's Waters Brigade" with me and Jesse to support the Dyke March in NYC this past summer. Lisa Weltman, Jesse and Mark Steier and Dave spent a long day getting the cold shoulder from the NJ AFL-CIO when we tried to get into the Immigrant Workers Freedom Ride rally. One of the last thing Jordan's did before going to Miami was drafting a letter of protest to the AFL-CIO with all our names on it. Jordan helped run the ARA Network store and and just recently showed up to support our Free-Farouk work by attending the video screening and handing out literature.
Jordan served as a medic is Miami. He gave me regular updates from the Miami FTAA 'front lines' while I guiltily spent the weekend at a way-to-mainstream ballot-access conference in DC ( I wish more than ever that I decided to go to Miami instead).
I received a call from the van on Sunday night when I got back from DC. Jordan was sick and they were stuck in Selma, North Carolina. I made a few phone calls to the SPers in North Carolina and Carol Housel, Jimmy Schaefer and Melvin Little came through. Jordan spent his last night outside a hospital bed at Jim's house, and Jim spent much of the last few days providing support to a bunch of young anarchist activists that he never met before, and providing support to Jordan's family.
I was on the bus to work when Andrea got the call this morning. Jordan died at 2 AM
...
All activists who were in Miami this weekend should be very careful with their health. Since Jordan was a medic there is the possibility that the Meningitis could have spread. If people develop flu-like symptoms and were at the convergence center and/or were treated by medics, they should go to a doctor immediately. It is important that you get treated as soon as possible. Folks who were in contact should get Cipro or similar medication to be sure.

|
BIOTERRORISM!!!!! :tinfoilhat: Didn't all the cops have on gas masks? I know it's a stretch, but the days we're living in make anything possible.
So sorry for his family and friends. Sounds like he was a really nice guy.
