So Now US Kidnaps Women & Children, Takes Hostages?!!
So the wife and daughter of Iraqi #6 are arrested by the US military in Iraq, in a ploy to get their husband and father to turn himself in. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS COUNTRY? Have we no shame? Have we no laws? Whatever happened to the Geneva Convention, the US Constitution, and common sense?

1. Thanks for posting this.
Now I'll just rub people's face in it whenever they piss and moan about the Iraqis violating the Geneva convention.

2. That's a lot of questions.
WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS COUNTRY?
Too many people not paying close enough attention.
Have we no shame?
It's getting to that point.
Have we no laws?
Most are optional if you are "connected".
Whatever happened to the Geneva Convention?
On the dustheap of history.
the US Constitution?
ditto
and common sense?
Too many people too lazy or too overworked to care.

5. I wondered about this news today
but I thought perhaps the wife was somehow involved... hopefully??? If not it's a giant departure from strategic and ethical negotiation tactics by the US in the past.

8. no, they haven't claimed that anywhere I've seen
The argument is that the family members are "material witnesses" to the location of the Iraqui ex-official, not that the family members have commited crimes.

9. no departure. "interrogating" wives and kids is standard US practice

In Iraq, they have been doing it since the invasion began

..."Col. David Hogg, commander of the 2nd Brigade of the 4th Infantry Division, said tougher methods are being used to gather the intelligence. On Wednesday night, he said, his troops picked up the wife and daughter of an Iraqi lieutenant general. They left a note: "If you want your family released, turn yourself in." Such tactics are justified, he said, because, "It's an intelligence operation with detainees, and these people have info."

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A54345-2003Jul27.html

Even before that, the US seized the little boys, 7 and 9, of Sheik Khalid Mohammed for "interrogation." It is unlikely that the children are still alive.

7 year olds can't take much "interrogation."

The majority of the voting classes have no problem with torturing Muslim children, although I anticipate there will be a great public demand for televising the "interrogations" soon, maybe on Pay-per-View.

7. yes. link inside
Troops of the U.S. 4th Infantry Division in Samarra, 70 miles north of Baghdad, arrested the wife and daughter of Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri, a top Saddam associate, division spokesman Lt. Col. William MacDonald said Wednesday.

Under Saddam, al-Douri was vice chairman of the ruling Revolutionary Command Council, and shortly before the war began March 20, Saddam placed him in charge of defenses in northern Iraq.
