DU Seniors: Drop AARP and join the Gray Panthers. We could all join.
http://www.graypanthers.org

Look at their front page, Their politics are consistent with the politics at DU.

They are an intergenerational organization, which means that we could all join.

Intergenerational Activist for Social Change
The Gray Panthers is a national organization of intergenerational activists dedicated to social change. We are age and youth in action. For almost thirty years, Gray Panthers have worked to make America a better place to live for the young, the old, and everyone-in-between. Taking on our society's toughest problems — peace, health care, jobs, and housing — Gray Panthers have been effective in creating change. Whether at the local, state or federal level, Gray Panthers fight to change laws and attitudes for social justice. Founded in 1970 by social activist Maggie Kuhn, Gray Panthers believe that all Americans should benefit from our country's abundance. Today Panthers are active in more than 50 local "Networks" attacking problems from an intergenerational perspective.

I'm joining and I am 35. And they don't ask you for money either, If you want to donate cash then that's your business.

1. bump
I'm joining too! Thanks for the link.

You are only 35 but senior issues "hit" you way sooner than you'd like to think. I'm 53 and my parents are seniors. When I think of what would happen if they didn't have health coverage it freaks me out. I know it would fall to me to pay (they would never ask, but how could you not help if you could?)

2. Excellent points.
Just because you are not near retirement age it does not mean that these issues won't personally affect you well before your retirement. It is a scary thought to think of what would happen to our parents if there were no social net and if we could not provide for them in their time of need.

Are we prepared to see millions of seniors homeless, destitute, and dying on our streets? is this the kind of country that we want to live in? I don't think so.

3. "Are we prepared to see millions of seniors homeless, destitute,
and dying on our streets?"

Are we prepared to see *anyone* in those situations?

I certainly agree with you that this isn't the country *I* want to live in. I really never thought I'd live to see the day when so much thoughtlessness is popular. I'm having a hard time coming to terms with the fact that this is what so many people actually want. I guess they got theirs, so to heck with anyone else.

Yes, I think these issues are for *everyone*, regardless of age!
