WillPitt I wish you would research this: The myth about drug research |
|
Go back and research the tenure of one Bernadine Healey at the National Institutes of Health. I believe that you will find that she was a top administrator, a top scientists and MD, a proponent of equal opportunity, and a true visionary. You will also find how the 'good ol'e boys lined up against her because of one thing: price controls on prescription drugs that were developed with Federal funding of research and clinical trials.
This entire Medicare bull shit about the give away to pharmeceutal companies because drug research is "expensive" is a crock. The public should know but doesn't that billions and billions of taxpayer dollars are pumped into drug companies either as direct or indirect funding of drug research and even drug development and marketing. So when you hear the story that the cost of prescription drugs must remain high so that drup companies can pay for their heavy investments in drug research just remember that it's a huge lie. It cost Bernadine Healey her job as Director of the NIH, it has already cost the careers and livelihood of several excellent researchers because they spoke out about this. It ought to cost Bush and his Republican and Democratic co-horts their jobs as well. They know the truth and refuse to tell it or to let it guide them in their policy decisions. Once again, the subsidies to corporate America far out weigh any social program I know of when the totals are added together...and that means adding in all the parts that are funded under the Pentagon, State Department, Agriculture, Interior, NASA, NSA, etc. The money is well hidden.

Health care shouldn't be part of the free market economy. Developed countries in the world are proof positive that national health care, if properly run and funded with a single payer government office, works very well. We should be studying all the data and forming our own plan for such a program instead of invading third world countries for oil profits.
