A little retrospective...
... from Tom Engelhardt's web page from the Nation Institute:

http://www.nationinstitute.org/tomdispatch/index.mhtml?pid=1096

Fulbright had it pegged, thirty-seven years ago. Bush has managed to tap into an urge in this country which has been around for quite a while, it seems.

A long read, but worth it.

Cheers.

I've long thought mankind is in dire need of a new "evolutionary leap", if you will. On a most base level, we all desire a certain amount of control; over our own lives, our own destinies. But power in the modern world, (finance, militariy, influence) is a whole different ballgame. It doesn't just corrupt,(even absolutely) It twists and warps reality away from the true nature of humanity! Commonality, empathy, the ability to put oneself in another's shoes, all of the virtues that make humans wonderfu, can now be squashed in a wholesale fashion, with nary a peep; because we're taught to be afraid...

I think if one traces the history of unjust power brokering, it go's pretty much all the way back...but in these modern times with the technological advances made, even in the last 50 years, and the massive firepower available, those IN control have a much more terrifiying capability of suppressing or even destoying those of us with much less influence. Sometimes it's depressing as hell..Hence my avatar and sig line. Om mani padme hum.
edit: for spelling and grammar; man I suck
