Neo-Conned
I stumbled upon the transcripts of a speech by Ron Paul titled "Neo-Conned". I began reading some of the things this man has been saying and I am so impressed. If these items have been posted here I missed them. I believe "Neo-Conned" is a MUST READ, plus it give some really good information for formulating better counter points. I only wish there were more with this mans courage and conviction.

From his most recent speech regarding the draft:

It’s said that the 18 year old owes it to his country. Hogwash! It just as easily could be argued that a 50 year-old chicken-hawk, who promotes war and places the danger on innocent young people, owes a heck of a lot more to the country than the 18 year-old being denied his liberty for a cause that has no justification.

....snip

A government that is willing to enslave a portion of its people to fight an unjust war can never be trusted to protect the liberties of its own citizens. The ends can never justify the means, no matter what the Neo-cons say.

It is difficult to include excerpts from the "Neo-Conned". It is well worth the read:

Let it not be said that no one cared, that no one objected once it’s realized that our liberties and wealth are in jeopardy. A few have, and others will continue to do so, but too many—both in and out of government—close their eyes to the issue of personal liberty and ignore the fact that endless borrowing to finance endless demands cannot be sustained. True prosperity can only come from a healthy economy and sound money. That can only be achieved in a free society.

2. Irony, served up cold.
Ron Paul, Libertarian Republican. Maybe he hates Democrats(?), but the Dems could really use him.

After all, Senator Byrd won't live forever.

3. Thank you reprehensor and
xchrom for replying to this post. I am going to kick it once in hopes that it might generate more discussion or support for Ron Paul. I can't imagine that Mr Paul is one of the more popular people in the house today.

I thought DU was quick to support those that seemed to be furthering our objectives. I would say this man fits in that category. If not, maybe someone can enlighten me so that I don't get sucked in where I wish I hadn't. Just because he is a Libertarian Replublican doesn't seem to me worth dismissing him out of hand. We need this spirit wherever it comes from. Politics can make strang bedfellows.

Reprehensor, does he hate Democrats? I haven't read enough to know his stance on us. Any infromation you have is very much apprciated!!

Thank you very much!!

4. Here's more information for you, FormerOstrich ...
I remember reading "Neo-Conned" awhile back after seeing it posted here at DU and luckily, I still had the thread bookmarked ... I'm glad to see it posted again because I think it's a brilliant speech that more people need to read.

Anyway, in response to your request for more information on Rep. Ron Paul, here's the link to the previous DU thread that I, personally, found helpful. (Hopefully, you will too! :) )

5. Very very helpful, dixiechiken!
Thank you very much for the information I thought it was very interesting. I am even more impressed with this guy. While I may not agree with all of his politics, I respect him and think he can help further our cause. I've written him an e-mail thanking him for his efforts.

:)
