Symbolism - the Turkey

http://www.berkshireeagle.com/Stories/0,1413,101%7E6267%7E1798194,00.html
<snip>...
It is worth remembering that while the president enjoys being photographed with soldiers he passed on an opportunity to become a soldier himself, ducking out to the National Guard -- and then going AWOL from the guard. If he is now truly concerned about the welfare of America's soldiers he will devote his time to persuading foreign nations to join the cause in Iraq while Iraqis labors to set up their own government. That would be of more help than a brief campaign appearance.

The May 1 campaign appearance produced the Flight-jacket George doll, and perhaps the Thanksgiving photo op will give us Army-jacketed George delivering a plate of turkey. The turkey can symbolize his Iraq policy.

1. Chickenhawk serves turkey to sitting ducks...
One of our DUers came up with that headline. I'm sorry I do not recall who it was.

7. That's a good one
It's even better than the one I came up with.

Bush- He just gives the troops "turkeys".

13. Yeah, I noticed that, too. Several photos posted around here,
and so few smiles among the troops close to him. HMMMMMM.....

3. I don't know about this strategy
It's a tricky one, because while it is clearly image over substance--it's a damn good image. President Bush's policies have lead to putting our troops in harms way without much of an end in sight, the obvious thing for Democrats to say is that he doesn't care about the troops, only about his policies and his cronies (which is true, I think). But this picture paints a different picture to those willing to buy into it.

4. Absolutely!
Edited on Sat Nov-29-03 11:11 AM by Jawja
On Thanksgiving day at my Mom's, my stubborn GOP voting brother saw the video of * serving the turkey and remarked, much to everyone's surprise, "there's the TURKEY."

With the tone of his voice, he meant BUSH.

Just like "Top Gun," the "turkey" stunt will backfire.

on edit: my spelling

6. Lest we forget...
They are there under the pretext of lies - lies about WMDs, about imminent threats, about nuclear capabilities, about 45-minute attacks, about terrorism, etc...

8. Once too often
The problem for Rove and company is that they've gone to the well once too often. The carrier landing stunt became a joke and America recognized it for what it was: a cynical PR stunt. The more he performs these stunts the more immune the public will become.

"fool me once, shame on you...fool me twice....er ...ah.. (insert 10 seconds of silence)...ya can't get fooled again!"

9. Just think ... if Benjamin Franklin had his way the
turkey rather than the bald eagle would be our national bird.

I wonder if we would still be eating them?

And think of all of the good jokes that may have never been written!

10. Symbolism = Fitting, to a tee.
Plus, he's stoned:

On Halcyon like Poppy?

On Vicodan like Laura?

On Alcohol like himself?

Or, did he hit the trifecta? Again.

11. I want the new Bush serving Turkey action figure for Christmas now
I hope someone makes it in time. A George W. Bush action figure, in Army jacket, serving up a big turkey for the troops. Removable platter and moveable serving arm!

12. Not "photo-op" ... photo-LIE.
The Facetious Fascist picked up the platter from the buffet for 15 seconds merely to pose for a picture. There wasn't a single sincere act (unless he scratched his crotch) in the entire 2.5 hours -- every single act was a pose! Every one of them. There is no virtue whatsoever in any act solely performed so obviously for publicity -- acts that have no other demonstrable intention.
