We need to multiply grassroots by 10x
Edited on Sat Nov-29-03 02:04 PM by andym
We'll need at least 10x the number of grassroots volunteers
currently working for all of our candidates (with Dean having
the lion's share) to compete with the Republican grassroots effort.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A20936-2003Nov29.html

Revelant facts:
6,000,000 people have signed up online to support Bush
3,000,000 republican voter registration drive

Time to get more people involved in Democratic grassroots!

1. Manipulation
If they really have this many volunteers they can play havoc
with the Democratic nomination process. Is there any evidence that
they are trying at the grassroots level?

2. I've been thinking the same thing
Is it best to work with a specific campaign?

I've been thinking of seeing if I can get a hundred or so voter registration forms, put stamps on them and distribute them somehow. I haven't figured out the somehow part. Maybe the hospital I work for would let me leave them in the main lobby. Or wait! The employee exercise room. Administration never goes in there. :)

I figure most unregistered folks are more likely to vote Dem than repug.

3. I'm one of those signed up to "support" Bush
keeps me informed of their nefarious doings.

Some of the Bushit they spew is laughably absurd.

5. Good to hear that some of their huge number is exaggerated.
Good to hear that some of their huge number is exaggerated.
But how many are actually Republican activists? 90%?
Even if 600,000 are people spying for our side, that leaves
5.4 million working for them.

We do need to get even more organized and ASAP.

4. Exactly
There are already emails to that effect...manipulating the Dem nomination process. And their grassroots effort has been reported on NPR and CNN.

6. One idea
One idea is to get as many of our candidate's grassroots supporters
as would agree to also participate in a general Democratic fundraising/
issues/new voter registration grassroots effort (spreading the "good news").

OK, now I can see why fundraising will have to postponed til after someone wins the nomination. But why not already connect everyone up to
some kind of pro-Democratic site that will help grassroots activists register new voters and then will continue to help them and keep involved no matter who wins the nomination. Perhaps all of the campaigns can arrange to get together to do something like this, before partisanship/dissapointment among supporters of specific candidates poison the atmosphere for this kind of thing.
