the neo-con quiz says I'm Pat Buchanan |
|
http://www.csmonitor.com/specials/neocon/quiz/neoconQuiz.htmlI think one area where liberals are losing the populace is on the issue of globalization. I believe in protecting the interests of Americans and American workers first-- though not at the expense of internationals. Our involvement is much of the cause of third-world suffering. So should I join up with Pat Buchanan's hate group?

1. if Democrats let Bush and the likes of Buchanan steal this issue |
|
Edited on Sat Nov-29-03 05:31 PM by WhoCountsTheVotes
We'll never win elections. Buchanan uses the red meat rhetoric, but won't back it up, not to mention he's a racist, sexist, homophobic, reactionary religious fanatic.
No one is for blindly slapping tariffs on our trading partners, and there is no simple answer to Chinese economic power and the wage slavery, sweatshops, monopolies, mercenaries and violent union-busting that the multinational corporations support, but if the Democratic party won't do something about it, Bush will bamboozle Americans with some band aid protectionism and photo-ops.

2. Buchanan is actually a Good Thing for liberals |
|
Buchanan's conservatism is far removed from Team Bush's PNAC neo-conservatism. The more attention Peejay gets, the better it is for us. He can be counted on to divide the Right even more reliably than Ralph Nader can be counted on to divide the Left. Which is why Buchanan had to be discredited by the neo-Con/PNAC cabal.
I'm not so sure he's the bogeyman we make him out to be. He has a bad case of "Dangerous Thinker Syndrome", but other than making oh-so-Politically-Incorrect remarks, the closest he comes to the modern KKK is as a Kirche-Kuche-Kinder traditionalist.
This isn't to say he's a "good guy" -- just that he comes in handy to separate the chaff from the chaff.

3. This is what it said about me... |
|
It said that I am a "Isolationist"
The term isolationist is most often used negatively; few people who share its beliefs use it to describe their own foreign policy perspective. They believe in "America first." For them, national sovereignty trumps international relations. Many unions, libertarians, and anti-globalization protesters share isolationist tenets.
Isolationists…
Are wary of US involvement in the United Nations Oppose international law, alliances, and agreements Believe the US should not act as a global cop Support trade practices that protect American workers Oppose liberal immigration Oppose American imperialism Desire to preserve what they see as America's national identity and character Historical isolationist: President Calvin Coolidge Modern isolationist: Author/Commentator Pat Buchanan ----------------------------------------------------------------------
Really now...?

4. My alter egos Woodrow Wilson and Jimmy Carter would say no |
|
but if it makes you feel any better, with only ten questions and four possible results, you'd only have to agree with Buchanan what - three times? Like it says, it's not scientific.

11. The answers are so obvious.... |
|
and so indicative of where you'll end up....
I am a multilateralist though I reserve the right for America as well as all nations to act independently when their vital interests are threatened...
But to act independently there must be IMHO a clear and pleasant danger which threatens a nation's vital interest and defining that gets thorny....
Also, I do support humanitarian intervention in certain circumstances....

Liberals…
Are wary of American arrogance and hypocrisy Trace much of today's anti-American hatred to previous US foreign policies. Believe political solutions are inherently superior to military solutions Believe the US is morally bound to intervene in humanitarian crises Oppose American imperialism Support international law, alliances, and agreements Encourage US participation in the UN Believe US economic policies must help lift up the world's poor Historical liberal: President Woodrow Wilson
Modern liberal: President Jimmy Carter

But I actually agree with more of the realist ideas. There were a couple of questions that didn't have an answer I agreed with at all. Interesting. I don't want to be in charge, I tell you that.
