A Call to DU, need some help with media research
I am writing a paper on media bias in the American and Foreign press. I'm looking for links to stories on the same subjects. The first link should be an American source. The second link should be a foreign source covering the SAME story in a different manner. Please stick to coverage of the Iraqi war.

Any questions can be directed to me here in this thread or feel free to pm me. You can also email me at sgr2@uakron.edu.

Thanks DU!

3. Here's a recent BBC article
BBC chief attacks partisan war reports

Greg Dyke, director-general of the BBC, has attacked US reporting of the war in Iraq and derided news organisations that took sides.

Mr Dyke, speaking after getting an honorary award at the International Emmys in New York on Monday night, said the Iraq coverage illustrated the difference between the BBC and US networks.

"For any news organisation to act as a cheerleader for government is to undermine your credibility," he said. "They should be balancing their coverage, not banging the drum for one side or the other." Research showed that of 840 experts interviewed on US news outlets during the war only four opposed the conflict.

"If that were true in Britain, the BBC would have failed in its duty," he said. "Telling people what they want to hear is not doing them any favours. It may not be comfortable to challenge governments or even popular opinion, but it is what we are here to do."

Mr Dyke said there was an appetite for such news in America, judging by the growth in demand there for BBC news.

Very good, I'm trying to match up some BBC coverage with American television as we speak.

8. Two good examples recently...
... both probably in the archives here, one on the difference between content and coverage of CNN in this country and CNN International, and someone also posted the two TIME magazine covers of the same edition number, one for domestic distribution, and the other for international, I think November or December, 2002. One has a terrified face wrapped in duct tape and the other has a photo of Chirac.

Someone else may have mentioned it, but also look for a very recent article by the head of the BBC on Iraq war reporting in the U.S.

Cheers.

9. Check out FAIR
Fairness & Accuracy in Reporting: www.fair.org

There are a lot of great books on the topic, too. Off the top of my head: Manufacturing Consent (the movie too), The Media Monopoly, What Liberal Media?, and Rich Media, Poor Democracy.
