Bush Plea Rings Hollow.
Edited on Sun Nov-30-03 09:44 AM by The Lone Liberal
CRAWFORD, Texas - President Bush having surprised the nation with his Thanksgiving trip to Baghdad, asked Americans on Saturday to volunteer to help military personnel and their families.

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20031130/ap_on_go_pr_wh/bush_20

This plea rings hollow when he with a stroke of a pen exempt through tax-cuts the top one-percent from assisting our troops. Now, he wants the great working-class to shoulder the financial burden of supporting the troops and their families. I wonder if he doesn’t realize, those troops are us, those families are our families, our brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, grandsons, granddaughters, cousins. They who are in harms way are ours and we do support them. Why doesn’t he ask or demand support from those who are getting a free ride, the top one-percent who is deriving the lions share of financial gain from this country. They are the ones who are not supporting the troops or this country. Why does he feel we are letting down the country? Why is it the lower and middle-class that he points to as shirking a duty to this country. It is the top one-percent who refuses to pay, or to send their own into harms way. When will he turn to them and ask that they do something?

2. Is Bush going to put his money where his mouth is and volunteer?
It might have been nice to see him on Thursday helping out in a soup kitchen instead of on a multi-million dollar re-election campaign stunt.

Is fishing with dad, chopping cedar and other chores at the stage set -- er, ranch -- volunteering to help the troops? Perhaps the cedar will be sent to build fires in Iraq for the soldiers who, having suffered through 120-degree heat are now camped out in some cases in the cold and rain. Nah, he won't do anything worthwhile.

5. this poor little rich guy never volunteered a thing in his entire life
this is a great concern of corporations I think--get volunteers to do a lot of the work free--you know, give em a little newsletter, a pin every year and a free dinner to praise them to the sky and just a little bit of authority in their own little group of volunteers so they think they are running things. Since he is surrounded with CEO's and has spent all of his life hanging around with them, I think he is here trying to wiggle out of spending some money on the troops for things like, you know, Kevlar vests and things like that.

I am assuming he means volunteer with sending supplies, food and water etc--otherwise the jerk does not realize that everyone who is concerned and expresses concern to the families and the troops is NOT a volunteer, and is NOT volunteering, but are being compassionate and caring human beings--Bush does not know what that means and this stupid thing he said shows it.

7. A cool way for Bush to support the troops,
Give them their rightful combat pay and the best healthcare money can buy would be a great start!!!!

8. How about feeding the troops families while they are in Iraq.
Novel concept, goes against the conservative mindset, but would be helpful not to starve the kids while dad is getting his ass shot at in Iraq.

10. So...

if you already volunteer to help the disabled, the elderly, the unemployed, the hungry, the sick, etc... should you trade your time helping those folks to help the military that Bush forgot to support with actual policy? If he actually gains support based on this hooey, I'm going to start losing faith in my fellow citizens, and I really don't want to lose any more.

11. Bush and lurkers, I will gladly help out the President - on one condition:
He* repeals the tax cuts and stops spending like a lunatic out of control.

Take some responsibility Bush. Don't beg us to do it without doing something yourself.

12. one question...
wasn't the 87 billion dollars that we the taxpayers are going to shell out supposed to help the troops...?

I could find many ways to use that money to help troops and thier families...

13. Naa, that $87 Billion was
to pay the salaries and pack the golden parachutes of the Halliburton Board of Directors. Our troups are well trained, they can take care of themselves.

14. I swear Rove beetle lurks here! This issue has been brought up here
many times about lack of supplies for the troops. Just the other day when we had freepers intruding in mass numbers several DUers were blasting them on a thread about the lack of flak jackets and sure enough the next day the twit* makes this statement.
