Anybody see John Breaux and Trent Lott on This Week? |
|
..with George Stephanopoulous? Steph asked both of them about their votes on the Medicare prescription plan. Breaux had voted with Bush and for the plan and Lott had voted against the plan. The thought that I had was, "which is the best Republican?" Lott appeared to be more acceptable, even though he is a right-wing idealogue and possible racist, because at least he is predictable. It appeared to me that John Breaux and his type are more of a threat to our Party than the likes of Trent Lott. Anyone else see this?

1. Lott was recently booted by the neocons |
|
the reason he probably voted against Medicare prescription plan is because of that, otherwise if he was still the majority leader he would have voted for it. No doubt about it.

2. Lott said some pretty nutty stuff. |
|
Edited on Sun Nov-30-03 01:41 PM by VolcanoJen
He was very critical of the rampant spending bills, and said it's becoming a big problem that Republicans have to address.
When Stephanolpolous said that Bush had yet to veto a single spending bill, Lott laughed, and added, "Yes, and the ones he's talked about vetoing the wrong bills for the wrong reasons! He's threatening to reverse the Omnibus Appropriations Bill because we reversed one small part of an FCC decision. That would not be wise. It's time for this President to put down some stronger markers in terms of authorization of costs, he's going to have to start controlling the appropriations spending process."
I almost lost it when he said that " I feel that the greatest achievement of the last 25 years was when we had 4 years with an actual balanced budget and a surplus."
!!!!!
Look, he's not forgiven by me, but I was a bit shocked at how openly critical of Bush he was, in terms of domestic affairs and spending.

5. I think Lott blames Bush |
|
for his rejection as Senate majority leader. In the recent governor's election, Bush came to Mississippi and campaigned for Barbour. Sen. Cochran made an ad supporting Barbour. If Lott supported Barbour in the election, he wasn't very aggressive about it. Trent Lott has a massive ego and he can turn on people quickly if he feels he's slighted.
