So... who should be the VP candidate
assuming it won't be one of the nine current presidential candidates?

A few suggestions:

Gary Locke
Mary Landrieu
Jeanne Shaheen

I'd say Harold Ford, Jr., too but the guy's not old enough yet. But keep an eye on that man.

Others have a short list?

3. Didn't ask which of those you wanted
Was asking for a few potential names. Excluded Richardson b/c he's repeatedly said he wouldn't do it and just got elected as governor of NM. Closer, who *would* you want? It's not enough just to dismiss the suggestions I threw out.

11. No sweat.
How about Bob Mendendez from New Jersey? I like him when he's on the tube, at least.

6. I think people are missing the point
Please offer more names, not simply critique the first four off the top of my head. I'll be the first to admit I don't know all the potential quality folks out there... so help!

5. Landrieu and Richardson are top notch possibilities...
Graham was my original choice for president, Mark Warner would be good, Rendell would be excellent and, maybe, Evan Bayh (I hear the rage boiling, but I do not share DU's general distain for Evan. No, he's not his father, but he has time to grow).

8. Right now I'm liking John Edwards for VP
especially if Dean is the nominee. I think that would be a strong team.

14. I agree. If Edwards isn't the Pres. nominee, he should be the VP nom.

10. Anne Richards, Bill Bradley, Roy Romer, Pat Schroeder, Martin Sheen.
In no particular order...

I Think M. Moore might be right that we need someone with "name recognition" on the ticket - it worked for the ugly Twin in CA.....

Politicat (Who thinks if you didn't get the twin reference, you missed part of the 80's and 90's and should probably check and see how much else you missed....)

13. Martin Sheen?
That might be cool. And he might even have been arrested more times than Bush deserves to have been. ;-)

15. Gephardt would be a good VP
For Clark...Washington insider, years of domestic experience, and strong in the midwest.

Dean would need 2 VPs to bring up to speed.

16. Hmmm... Locke is a good man
I think that if Dean is the man then is has to be Clark. He is a Military southener... Something Dean Needs. On the other hand. If its Clark, Edwards or maybe Gephart then we have a number of choices... Gary Locke is a great idea. I live out in Washington and we love him out here. Also John Edwards would be a good person to carry the party in 2012. And of Course Ed Rendell.
