Repubs are starting to think that Dean will be the nominee...
He is the only candidate that the Repubs have targeted for direct attack with a political ad. They accuse him of wanting to increase taxes on every American. Dean came back with a very effective and timely response in which he says they are not trying to stop him, "they are trying to stop you".

But that is the burden of carrying the frontrunner status, as Dean is being portrayed. He needs to keep his powder dry because he is going to need a lot of powder to fight the blitzkrieg that is sure to come. It is noteworthy that he is getting this attention from the RNC.

The Repubs are real pros at the PR game. They want to build Dean up as the nominee and they want to tear him down at the same time. If they tear him down too much, he will not win the nomination. They think he will be the easiest to beat. However, as the old saying goes, be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.

1. The Right is cocky to a fault
and it's going to kick them in the face in 2004.

4. There's something else that I don't think some people realize.
The right wingers, currently, are angry and loud, and they work by using brute force (and lies) while campaigning.

But they're not very bright. Rove may be sneaky, but he's not the "genius" people have been told he is, and that goes for the rubes involved in the Arkansas Project and other deals as well. The arrows in their quiver consist, essentially, of nothing other than old fashioned dirty politics. There's little creativity or hope involved at all. There is no humor. In that light, it's not very American.

The Dean campaign realizes this. That will lead to its success to a large extent.

9. Good point
Rove isn't a genius because he goes after idiots with his BS. I hadn't thought of that.

2. This is certainly true. He has been under full fledged attack
for weeks now.

They have nothing of substance to attack, so get ready for the lies. Those should begin shortly.

8. This might explain it.
GOP tries to boost Dean by burying him.

By DEBORAH ORIN

December 4, 2003 -- HOWARD DEAN and Republicans share one big dream - to see Dean become the Democratic 2004 presidential nominee.
It's fascinating to watch Republicans do their best to boost Dean.

Take the Republican National Committee's decision to run a TV ad in Iowa that paints Democrats as undermining President Bush in the war on terror. It says, "Some are now attacking the president for attacking the terrorists."

Antiwar, anti-Bush anger boosted Dean to the top of the Democratic pack and a pro-war Republican ad is sure to infuriate and energize Dean fans - and focus political debate on the very issue that helps Dean the most.

"It's very smart - every time they pick fights with Dean, it just serves to elevate him in the Democratic race," says a Republican strategist. "It's good for both of them. Both sides want a Dean-Bush race."

Why? Because polls suggest Dean would be pretty close to the weakest Dem against Bush and he offers the sharpest contrast in ideology and personal style.

10. Didn't we already have an entire thread about this article?
And didn't we accurately label it as right-wing propaganda?
