Howard Dean Interview on CNN's Inside Politics today
Judy Woodruffs Inside Politics
December 8, 2003
And online at http://CNN.com/insidepolitics

From CNN's Inside Politics staff:

President Bush today signed into law an unprecedented overhaul
of the Medicare program.

Our John King will report from the White House on the political
impact of the Medicare changes, and how the law could play in
the 2004 elections.

Judy anchors the show from New York today, where she will catch
up with Howard Dean on the campaign trail for an extended
one-on-one interview.

She will also talk with Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist
(R-TN) about Medicare and other issues, and our political
analyst Ron Brownstein will stop by to wrap up the weekend
Florida Democratic Convention.

Well also have new CNN/USA TODAY/Gallup poll numbers on the
president and the economy, and well take a look at the
political ad battle brewing over the Bush tax cuts.

Howard Kurtz reports that Howard Dean, for one, is hitting the
airwaves with a ready answer to claims hes a tax and spend
liberal.

Kelly Wallace looks at what some might consider the unlikely
pairing of the GOP convention with the not-so-Republican Big
Apple, and well get a first look at something you will see a
lot more of in the days and months to come: the 'CNN Election
Express bus.

All that, plus the latest Washington scoop from Chuck Todd of
The Hotline, and an update on John Kerrys defense of his use
of profanity to criticize the Bush policy in Iraq.

Please join us for Judy Woodruffs Inside Politics, at 3:30
ET, 12:30 PT.

1. ha, I expect Judy HuffDuff
to be snarky to Dean again. You can see the Republican bias in her ooze out so openly when she talks to Dean.

7. Isn't she awful?
I HATED her performance at the debate. She was so snide and would brook no slams on bushy-boy. Thanks for the head's up, I'm going to watch. I am trying to warm up to Howard. I would be very happy if he would verbally smack Judy around.

8. ha, that's why she hates him because he quickly put his foot down
and corrected her in an interview. You should've seen the look on her face. ;-)

10. I emailed her a nasty little note about her debate
performance. I told her she needed to ask questions and then listen without interupting, and that she could at least pretend to be unbiased. I was so mad at her not just about Dean but she was just rude to all of them..

18. Hey slinkerwink

She's snarky to ANYONE not sporting an (R) next to "party affiliation" - Mr. Dean has no exclusive on that.

Maybe if he wears a flight suit... :)

2. Judy Woodruff is simplistic.
She just asks the same swarmy questions over and over. None are thoughtful, just rephrased to get the answers she wants. I guess when Bush yelled at her hubby in that restaurant, it scared her.

3. lol, into being a republican perhaps......
maybe the Bushites are holding a gun to her husband's head so she can say what the bushites want? I doubt it.

16. Dean has a problem with Bush using the word
"quotas", because it's a racial devisive buzz word. That's strange coming from a man that doesn't think the Confederate flag is racial devisive.

Edited on Mon Dec-08-03 03:50 PM by Minstrel Boy
He threw Woodruff's shit right back in her face, with a smile.

No boiling-mad loon here. (Now where do you think that's coming from?) He showed great composure.

about raising taxes, and CNN also showed Dean's response ad to that one......talk about getting free airtime!

28. Wrong - it was good that she kept on him re: draft issues

Do you not think that if he gets the nomination the Repugs will be on him 24/7 about this?? If not, you are quite naive.

That said, I thought he handled it exceptionally well, save for one big thing. The question of why he brought his own x-rays will not go away, and I am afraid that the answer "well, lots of others did as well" may not fly.

You see, those of us of draft age during Vietnam who did not want to go (myself included) know EXACTLY why he brought along those records - he did not want to go either. Saying he would have gone if drafted may work for some of the younger folks, but those of us who lived through those times know better.

He'll need to do better on that answer if he wants to win in November. Just some food for thought.

25. Judy Woodruff is just terrible
I mean, really, does she ever have anything of value or merit to say? Earlier, after a segment from NY where the reporter ended with "Bush wants to win the state for the first time since Reagan" (yeah, right!), Judy responds, "Wouldn't that be something!". And that's about the level of insight she brings to all her comments.

She *did* beat the dead horse on Dean's draft deferment, and generally her interview was of the "let's trip him up" variety.

The Deam response team will have to send rebuttal letters to those voters.
