extension! Dean's the guy Gore believes in!
It makes me like and respect Gore so much more, too, because he's seen the power of democracy and grass roots, and he endorses it! He wants the decision left to the people!

36. agreed...the secret primary is now the only primary |
|
who ever has the most money wins...it's pretty simple now.
i'm going to take that 2000 we have been saving to give to our nominee and and put it to a new car, that's ten percent of our income and it was hard to save that much. we only decided to do it because we thought if a dem won this time we would actually get campaign finance reform and it would be the last time electoral success would be this dependent on money.
if Dean is nominated it will only re-enforce the rule that the primaries are no longer about positions or policy or even personality but about the money.

How do you figure that? That makes absolutely NO sense. Dean is a much stronger candidate then any of the others. He is a strong candidate BECAUSE of positions and policies. Sounds like sour grapes to me.

i want it to be about more than who can raise the most money.
if you think Dean's money machine isn't what this is about you may want to reconsider. and yes my grapes are sour because i think Gore lost because he didn't have a really competative primary. mistakes that should have been ironed out then surfaced in the general.
so..yes...sour grapes to Al Gore for setting up the same situation this time as last.

Her's Al Gore, the DLC/centrists candidate choice in 2000, who's now (not only not endorsing the DLC candidate in Lieberman) endorsing the anti-DLC candidate in Dean. So the man flying the party banner in 2000 selecting the choice that would have been against him in 2000.
NOW will you people stop blaming Nader?

61. It SHOULDN'T change Dean's platform, |
|
considering Gore's 2000 platform was nearly identical to Dean's. They're both lackluster, corporate-friendly, and continue to concentrate wealth and power with the oligarchy, while throwing a few scraps to the yuppies in the 'burbs while doing nothing for the working poor.
Nader had NOTHING, ZIP, NADA to do with Gore losing in 2000. Nader may have taken a few Gore votes in Florida, but Shrub got the votes of 300,000 Democrats in Florida. So please quit the crybaby antics about how Nader "cost" Gore the election, because it just ain't true, and it's the sign of a remarkably weak candidate.
With Gore's endorsement, it just cements what I've been saying all along: Dean is no different from the DLCers he seeks to replace. These are the same people who led us to defeat in 2000 (legally) and HUMILIATION in 2002.
The Democratic party will continue to swell the ranks of third parties in this country if it continues to sell itself out to the DLC corporatists and its like-minded candidates. If you want the party to be the Rockefeller Republicans, fine. But I prefer to have only ONE conservative party in this country, and one LIBERAL party.

in the 2000 election. Many of us (me included) are convinced that it was their attempts at image manipulation that cost Gore the election in 2000. Blame Nader, Jeb, or the Supreme Court if you like, but it was that ridiculous campaign that delivered Bush to us.

38. Gee, if Gore ran a lousy campaign, according to many on this board, |
|
Edited on Mon Dec-08-03 05:22 PM by Gloria
then why should I necessarily think he chose the right person or that his timing is best for our primary season???
I love Gore--but I don't like the timing of this. I think he should have waited until after the first primaries. I get the horrible sense that there's a bunch of Democratic lemmings heading over the cliff--before the first primary vote has been cast and before Dean has really been forced to focus on some of his flip/flops, image problems under the heat of an intensifying primary season.
This leaves me VERY QUEASY and very, very nervous because now the GOP can run against Dean and Gore, joined at the hip. Don't worry, they will find a way to do it. Gore didn't want to run because we weren't supposed to look at the past, but were supposed to look to the future. Well, the past has just joined the future......maybe way too early.
I am very unhappy with Mr. Gore on this particular action.

60. No, I don't think so...The primaries are supposed to allow voters to |
|
evaluate the campaigns. It's bad enough states are eliminating primary elections....
Gore injecting himself this early clouds the issues of the campaigns. He's brought up the PAST, which he said he didn't want to do, and put it into the present campaign season.
I wouldn't mind seeing this injected into the national campaign. But I don't want to see the primary season steamrollered, just as things are getting interesting.
Think about it...this will give FAUX and RW talk radio a field day....
