Edited on Tue Dec-09-03 05:31 PM by burning bush
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - Paul Simon, the bow-tie-wearing missionary's son who rose from crusading newspaper owner to two-term U.S. senator and presidential aspirant, died Tuesday, a day after undergoing heart surgery. He was 75.

1. Oh, no!
I didn't even know he'd had heart surgery or that he was that old, that's really sad. He reminded me of Wellstone.

2. Yes.
He had a bad valve, and he needed a bypass. He came through surgery well, and was recovering normally at noon today. No one down in Carbondale can tell me what's happened yet.
