Some Statistics on Arab Americans in the US
Edited on Wed Dec-10-03 12:03 PM by La_Serpiente
Taken from the Arab American Institute. Also, John Zogby is the president of the organization. He is also the CEO of Zogby International, the polling company.

-3.5 Million Arab Americans live in the US. The numbers may be even higher since many do not register out of fear by the US Government and deportation.

-94 % live in Metropolitan Areas.

-Lebanese Americans constitute a greater part of the total number of Arab Americans residing in most states, except New Jersey, where Egyptian Americans are the largest Arab group. Americans of Syrian decent make up the majority of Arab Americans in Rhode Island, while the largest Palestinian population is in Illinois, and the Iraqi and Assyrian/Chaldean communities are concentrated in Illinois, Michigan, and California.

The Majority of Arab Americans are Christian

42 % are Catholic
23 % are Orthodox
12 % are Protestant
23 % are Muslims

Some famouis Arab Americans are Ralph Nader, Arbaham Spencer (Energy Secretary), Darrel Issa, Helen Grahm, Sen. John Sunnunu (R-NH), and Paula Abdul. What a diverse bunch.

4. There is a slight problem with this
First, let me say that I'm a strong supporter of the Arab community and its causes. However, Assyrians and Chaldeans are NOT Arab and many are upset with these results and have beeng fighting the AAI for some time on this. Although we respect the Arab community, we fought hard in our homelands for our identity and resent having it continuously sabotaged by the AAI in these surveys.

6. No apology needed
You posted something with the word "Assyrian" in it, which never happens! FYI -- Assyrians are the indigenous people of Iraq.

10. Found this when reading a PDF at the website...
Primary ethnic identification: is derived from responses to the aancestry questoin on the long (sample) form of the 2000 U.S. Census........

We also include Arabic-speaking persons who identify as Assyrian/Chaldean, Somali or Sudanese, identities which are not aggregated as Arab in Census reports.

Just thought this would help...

14. I hate that guy
I might be revealing too much here, but we share the same last name and I constantly find myself defending against cruel accusations that I'm related to him, or worse, that I must be a repuke :puke:

13. I honestly can't remember the exact number but there are
at least few million Lebanese Christians living in the west because of the civil war. If you're interested I'll try to find the number. Read a good interview with Venus Khoury-Ghata which touches on the issue. Also, Pity the Nation by Robert Fisk is a good read on the subject of Lebanon.
