Why Kerry's position on the IWR may play well with moderate swing voters |
|
First, let me say this is not an endorsement for Kerry, it's just an aspect worth considering.
Someone, here on DU I think, wrote a piece a year or more ago talking about the pathological denial many republican voters exhibit about their own party. For them to vote democratic, would mean admitting their failure.
Kerry offers them a graceful way out. If a US Senator can be fooled by the whitehouse, how can those "average" citizens have been expected to do any better?
If the goal here is to gain back the presidency, I think this ought to be considered as well -- strategies to help voters out of their pathological dilemas.

4. I too was outraged by anyone who voted for that resolution... |

Anyone who was moderately educated and informed (beyond the right-wing media establishment) would have been too.
But that's not my point. The point is that this stance may play well with the swing voters.

Even if I wasn't for Kerry, I'd say you make an excellent observation, Pobeka. The Democratic nominee will get the support of the base, meaning the election will be decided by the middle and the moderate GOPers.
In a post-9-11 America, the middle 20-percent and the 10- to 20-percent disenchanted GOPers looking for a candidate to dump Bushler for will want someone with some REAL national security credentials. Sen. Kerry has the resume and the brains to clobber Bush. And, as a Liberal Democrat, the things he would do in office would build a better nation for ALL Americans and help build a better world for all people.
Personally? I'm for Kerry because as President he will bring down the BFEE. He was born to do the job.
