Is anyone watching ER?! They're discussing real issues. *Real* issues. |
|
They even complimented the Dixie Chicks. I've never seen an ER like this...

2. Well, there were also some very pointed comments about the |

broken promises "by your President" about money for AIDS.
Also, a discussion of generic drugs, vs the very expensive price in the US. It went so far as to describe how the drug prices were negotiated, and a twice a day regimen would cost $200 a day, vs a more complicated regimen used in the US and costing $1200 a month. I think this was a reference to what Clinton did recently, negotiating with Indian companies so that now 2-3 millions people will be getting treatment in Africa and S. America.
There was also a scene were Carter got yelled at by a few people (including his future girlfriend) about the US in general....

Once in a while Hollywood steps up to the plate on the air. Nice.

4. Also a scene with people sitting around a table criticizing the US. |
|
And a scene where a character says "anyone who'se cool likes the Dixie Chicks." And overall it was the strongest indictment of US neglect of the AIDs crisis in a poor black country that I've ever seen on a mainstream TV show.
I like to think that Bono would be proud of whoever wrote it.
