VN and Iraq: why can't US remember the Revolutionary War?? |
|
In grade school in the 40s and 50s, we learned that the redcoats kept screaming about the 'unfair' tactics of the colonial troops; we colonials did not fight the kind of war the British thought we should.
What is our problem about realizing the difficulties a superior army might have against a guerilla force fighting in its own country??????

In college (1967) I had a history prof that had a visit from one of his former students who was in the Army and was sent to study the Civil war for clues about irregulars and how it might apply to Viet Nam. I thought the same thing as you. Our revolution was a better example. One third of the colonists were for the crown, one third didn't care, and one third wanted independence.

But then the Romens said the same thing about the Germans. I do think this is the way all wars are fought if the army taken over is bigger and the ones with no power want to win.
