Why Dean may come out stronger because of this...
With the exception of Dean supporters, William Saletan, and a few others, the Kerry/Lieberman/gephardt crowd (and pundits) are saying that Dean is toast/only a pro-war vote will beat Bush. Fair point, but a losing one nonetheless. In the weeks leading up and through the primaries, Kerry et.al. are going to try an crucify Dean (think Lieberman's "If Dean was Pres, Saddam not captured" line from today). This is a given, and it had already started prior to today's events. But if (and yes, this may be a big if) Dean gets through this shit-storm of vitriol by the other candidates who now seem to think the war is the greatest thing that ever happened, Dean will be stronger than ever for a match-up with Bush because the attacks against him will have already been measured and defeated. If he can't get through what the Dems will throw at him in the next 6-8 weeks, he shouldn't be the nominee as Rove and Co. will be worse. But, if he makes it through, Bush will be in big trouble.

Dean's foreign policy speech tomorrow will be the first key in his drive for the finish line. How Dean positions/repositions himself in relation to today's events and against the other candidates will be huge. How he responds televisually (e.g., new campaign ads refuting the osama ad) will also be key to this strategy. And, of course, how his supporters react to the news will also be worth watching.

My bet, Dean sweeps--yes, sweeps--the 2/3 primaries and waltzed to the nomination.

Of course, if Bush 'captures' OBL next October, even Jesus won't be able to beat Bush (and I move to new zealand).
