Wash. Post/ABC Post-Saddam Poll: Bush Approval
12/07/03: Approve 53, Disapprove 40, No Opinion 7
12/14/03: Approve 57, Disapprove 39, No Opinion 5

All in all, considering the costs to the United States versus the benefits to the United States, do you think the war with Iraq was worth fighting, or not?

11/16/03: Worth Fighting 52, Not Worth Fighting 44, No Opinion 4
12/14/03: Worth Fighting 53, Not Worth Fighting 42, No Opinion 5

Do you happen to have heard or read about the news that Saddam Hussein was captured yesterday by U.S. forces in Iraq, or haven't you heard about that yet?

12/14/03: Yes 95, No 5, No Opinion 0

Do you think Saddam's capture means the big challenges facing the United States in Iraq are over, or do you think there are big challenges to the United States in Iraq still ahead?

12/14/03: Challenges Over 7, Challenges Ahead 90, No Opinion 3

N=506, Adults Nationwide, MOE=+/- 5

2. Excellent news! The propaganda may have reached its peak influence!
2-4% increase on the day of the "Huge Boost" is not a boost at all!

People who hate bush will always hate bush.

I swear people did not buy into war this thinking it would take years and years and money and money...and they did believe we were in imminent danger. no WMD has pissed off all of the reasonable people I know, including those who voted for *.

This war has already exceeded people's expectations, in a real bad way.

7. we'll have to wait and see---maybe people are in shock?
this is the game now---wait and see. Tomorrow Dean will present his foreign policy speech that'll sound reasonable and great to people who aren't so sure about Bush's foreign policy credentials.

6. So!
It seems that if there is any validity to these polls, then Saddam's capture provided a sharp intoxicating buzz with much less lasting effects than maybe the RW warmongers and apologists (Lieberman, to pick a random example of both) dared hope.

I think people have their minds made up about the rightness or wrongness of the war, since the increase in Chimpy's numbers still falls within the MOE. As we have been saying on DU all day - all well and good that bastard was caught, but it changes NOTHING about the immorality or illegality of the war, or how incompetently it has been conducted as a whole.

9. Remember...it wasn't about Saddam.
It was about WMDs.

Americans don't like to be bullshitted. Especially if it means their sons and daughters getting killed.

If Saddam didn't have the WMDs with him, this won't mean shit.

11. that's not a bounce...
Edited on Mon Dec-15-03 02:37 AM by w13rd0
...that's a thud. Yeah, even war supporters I spoke with were rather reserved with their exuberance. One even said, "Who cares? It's not like we've not heard fanfare gone sour before." US citizens have so little patience when it comes to...well...patience. The nonstop terror alerts (are we safe now?), photo ops, high-level captures with much pomp and propaganda. Eventually they just tune it out. Many that might have given the Fraudenchief the benefit of the doubt a year ago are not so quick to do so now. He's an unrepentent liar, he and his supporters just make noise to be making noise.

Oh, and plenty of people are saying, "Saddam?!? What happened to Ossama, 'Dead or Alive'?

Too much---usually comes out as too little. It's like the story of the boy who cried wolf.
