1. Maybe capturing a homeless guy
who was living in a hole in the ground, isn't such a big victory after all?

2. there is something very bizarre
about all of this. I just feel something very sinster is going on. I hope in the coming days more light will be shed on Saddam's capture. I won't hold my breath though. :eyes:

3. I don't think they wanted to take Saddam alive
NPR just reported that a soldier was getting ready to throw a hand granade down into the hole when Saddam popped out. With about 600 troops in the area and a bunch of Kurds and Iraqis along for the ride, there wasn't much they could do once he showed himself. Now the US is stuck with a living, breathing and talkative Saddam. I'm sure they'll try to make the best of it and milk things for all they're worth, but it would have been a lot easier if they had been able to kill him instead.

5. The family of my nephew, who's going to Iraq,
has basically lost confidence in Bush, and say they don't think he knows what he's doing. They add, however, that he's not a bad man. If this is where a lot of people are, it could be worse for our chances of ousting him next year.

6. Cautious optimism
I think it's interesting that these major media outlets are not yet trumpeting the * heroics. While I'm sure they've seen through his charades for a long time, they've usually been willing to go along and humor him and those in power. This time, they seem less willing to jump on his war wagon.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm?

Just wondering,

7. Any bounce will die when the next soldier ends up dead...
The capture of SH changes nothing in the eyes of most in Iraq. They still want the US the hell out even if their brutal dictator was caught--even more now.

Well Earth to Iraq,we ain't going nowhere. The plundering of millions upon billions of US tax dollars to Kellogg Brown Root isn't going to end because some tin pot dictator was found in a hidy-hole. Your stuck with us,joined at the hip as it were.

Bush will get a small bounce and then the ratings will drop like a rock when the killing begins anew. Even Joe six-pack will scratch his underarm and wonder why we are still in Iraq after the SH regime is no longer in power and SH captured.
