I Liked It Better Without Candidate Avatars |
|
It seemed for a very brief while today that you could post without being challenged immediately simply due to the "gang colors" you were flying instead of being judged on the merits of what was written.
So, I decided to remove my candidate avatar for a bit of good will. If I want to make a statement for my choice -- Wes Clark. Then I'll let my words speak when the need should arise in an appropriate thread.

I wasn't speaking specifically that I overreacted every time I see one but that there is a tendency for many here to jump on any post that carries the avatar of the "hated" adversary of the moment. If I make that preference choice I don't see how that changes the overall dynamic?

4. I don't think his point was about his own avatar |
|
It was about the general feeling around here. I have to admit, I'm guilty of it. Sometimes I base my opinion of a poster solely on thier candidate avatar. If I don't care for a candidate, I don't care for the poster and that isn't fair. In order for it to work, we'd ALL have to turn avatars off, and that ain't gonna happen.

I'd rather look at the substance of the post than the billboard.

When your first choice says something dumb, admit it. When the other guy does something good, cheer for him. I'd LOVE to see that happen here, but I won't hold my breath waiting.

Keep preaching the Gospel. I definately feel that there is a turf war going on in GD between Dean V. Clark V. Kerry/others and I am truly getting sick of it. I have seen the same discussion posted 5 times today about Dean's VT "tax havens". Now, I think it is great that we can discuss and argue about the canidates, their positions and their histories. However, it is becoming much too heated and childish for smart folks such as us to be drawn in. Many of us here are not respecting others when it comes to canidates(and even avatars, sad to say) and it bringing down this community to freepish-like standards. Let's be bigger than this petty crap!

12. it just bugs me because avatars on other forums... |

tend to be pictures of the person or graphics, so when I see a picture I automatically think of them as the writer of the post, which makes it a little weird when they are photos of politicians.
