they're doing everything they can to stir up bad feelings.
There is no reason this primary has to be this crappy, the people that are pushing this stuff are the ones making it crappy, I wish they would just cool it.

who disapproved of the ad? Because I found them to have integrity and it reflected well on their candidate.

9. I have trouble with the wording of your vote... |
|
I would vote for, "I want the candidates to denounce it so we can move on" option.

11. Actually, that is my problem |
|
This "request" that the candidates publicly "denounce" the ad.
It's one thing on an internet board.
It's another if it's a sincere expression volunteered by the candidates.
It's quite another for the Dean campaign to go around demanding that the other candidates "denounce" this. Why should they and who does he think he is to ask anything in this regard? Is he going to pledge never to do any "attack ad" against an opponent? If not, why the hypocrisy? In addition, and most importantly, he basically accused Kerry and Gephart of being in on this on his own website. That's just intimidation, to me, to accuse someone of something and then demand that they deny they had anything to do with it.
By the way they go on about this, you would think the ad accused him of being a child molester or something.
Dean and his supporters had better grow a much tougher skin if they do get the nomination, 'cause this is childs play compared to what they will be getting from Rove.

12. Good poll; thanks. And it doesn't appear there was an ad to get over. |
|
I haven't seen one post from a DUer who saw the alleged ad broadcast on TV.
Just a "leak" in an obliging newspaper painting Dean as the victim and the Kerry and Gephardt's teams as perps by remote association.
Simultaneous multiple posts on DU about the horrible alleged deed, coupled with lots and lots of fund raising for Dean and much pressuring of people here to immediately "denounce the ad" and donate to Dean!
Then days of "denounce/donate..." threads to really pound on the message in case it was too subtle initially.
Followed by days of "denounce/donate..." threads to really pound on the message in case it was too subtle during the preceeding few days.
Followed by days of polls and redundant threads that are almost "dupes" but not completely because of the little utilized DU loophole that makes it not completely a dupe if one word is different in the title.
And still, I haven't seen a post from one DUer who saw the alleged ad broadcast on TV.
Yeah, definitely sick of "it."

17. This has nothing to do with whether it was "acceptable" |
|
Just whether the crying about it is over the top.
It is.
It was an ad that, so far, nobody has seen. Not an assasination attempt. :eyes:

18. The ad was shown on CBS News tonight |
|
The TV network audience are seeing that some Democrats think that opposition to the war in Iraq is to support Osama bin Laden. Although the ad was intended to smear Dean, it has beaucoup collateral damage by smearing millions of antiwar Americans as pro-terrorists, the same charge made by Rush Limbaugh and Anne Coulter.
You are not going to get these voters to the polls in November 2004 to vote for a prowar Democratic candidate.

|
In fact it's being used right now on GD.
9:20pm PST, Dec 16 (2003).
(And this will likely be true no matter when you read it.)

24. Actually, that just underscores that it's only been promoted via media |
|
First a SF newpaper, now CBS "News"...
If anyone actually sees it *broadcast* on TV that would be better input.

27. The irony of all of this whining and demanding |
|
Edited on Wed Dec-17-03 12:38 AM by bumbler
by some of those who claim to support Dean is that the net results are:
1) Some media are picking up the story and the ad is being played on TV nationally and the Dean loves Osama meme is being spread more widely;
2) Some people who claim to support Dean are now mounting a campaign to encourage Dems to not vote in 2004 if Dean is not the candidate.
Is this what they wanted?
(edit: "some of" added where necessary for clarity.)

28. It's a Rovian tactic. |
|
I'd be pissed about it even if it was (say for instance) Dean supporters smearing Lieberman or something like that. I don't think this kind of stuff has any place in a Democratic primary.
We all gripe about the dirty tricks on Cleland, this is the same thing. Coming from Democrats.
Somebody's really desperate out there.
