... and Mods
One thing I left out of an earlier thread. The moderators of this forum do a magnificent job. On days like this, especially, they've got a hell of a task in front of them. Three cheers from me.

2. I'll praise Skinner
He came in and did the right thing this morning. About the mods, they generally do a good job, this morning there was a dropped ball however in my opinion.

4. Please Re-Read the Ask the Admin Thread

As Skinner indicated, as a practical matter, Mods do NOT have the power to lock "flamebait" threads.

This is NOT the Mods' fault.

7. I read it
From what I understand, all the mods have to be in agreement to lock a thread like that. I know you felt the same as the posters did about this thread, so I'm not blaming you at all. But whoever the mod was that didn't agree, was making an error in my opinion. Anyway, you mods normally do a good job. We all are human and make mistakes from time to time.

9. I'm Not a Moderator, and I Know You're Not Blaming Me
I just want to make sure you're not blaming the Mods unfairly. Per Skinner:

So, unless the moderators are in agreement that a thread needs to be shut down, they do not have the authority to do so. In practice, this means that generally only admins can get rid of flame bait.

So this apparently isn't just a case of no Mod disagreeing; this apparently is a case where EVERY Mod needs to EMPHATICALLY agree that the thread MUST be locked.

Additionally, as a practical matter, I'd bet that quite a few Mods would have made the suggestion (quite sensibly, IMO) that this was a case where Admin should look at the thread anyway.

As a former Mod, I know that there are cases where action is not taken as quickly as some members might prefer. That problem is exacerbated when only one of the three Admins are able to act, as was apparently the case here.

In any event, I think the correct course of action was taken in the end, and I'm glad the thread was deleted.

10. Yea, I'm glad it was deleted too
I guess I'm so used to things running smoothly at DU, due to the excellent job the mods normally do, that when a mistake is made it sticks out more and I notice it.
