Wisconsin Attorney General Backs Dean for President
MADISON: Wisconsin attorney general backs Dean for president

Associated Press

Wisconsin Attorney General Peg Lautenschlager endorsed fellow Democrat Howard Dean for president Tuesday and will serve as the state chair for his campaign.

Lautenschlager, who won the office last year, becomes the highest profile Democrat in Wisconsin to endorse Dean and the first attorney general in the country to do so.

She said she decided to back Dean, the former governor of Vermont, because of his grass-roots campaign that has reached out to people and her belief that special interests have taken over American politics.

"In Governor Dean, we have a candidate where what you see is what you get and he says what he thinks and he's not afraid to articulate his point of view," Lautenschlager said during a conference call with reporters.
