The 9/11 Commission Story-- question
How do we know that the blame is going to fall on the Bush administration? How do we know that he's not going to try to find a way to blame Clinton?

I just don't trust this. He didn't come right out and say the current administration.

Plus, Bush hand-picked this guy. I just don't see this happening.

Am I being paranoid?

1. Not paranoid at all
I don't think this administration will allow anything negative to come out about it at all. There will be some artful bobbing and weaving and scapegoating like we've never seen.

I posted something last night about the initial report in the Globe where they talked specifically about the air defense failures on 9/11. That's about the only thing they CAN'T blame on Clinton.

19. The bobbing and weaving will be very much like what we've seen
Their meme is "someone" should have been fired. No direct blame there and I expect it to stay that way. As long as Bush is not directly blamed, the story will be floated.

2. No, not paranoid
But I heard the CBS piece, and it seemed quite clear that Kean was referring to the current administration.

Even if they try to pin blame on the previous administration, it is well-documented that the Clinton people warned Bushco and were ignored.

Remember the Hart-Rudman commission? They went to Bushco with the report warning of the dire consequences of ignoring domestic terrorism and were given the bum's rush.

No matter what, it happened on Bushco's watch while they all were running away from it in the final analysis.

5. junior hand picked Henry Kissinger also,
but there was so much flax over that war criminal that he had to get someone that would quiet the crowd. junior didn't expect this from Thomas Kean.

Now explain your Clinton hatred to me, baby!

6. He also said..
to paraphrase, that the people responsible are still in the same decision-making positions.

That unequivocally says to me he's talking about the current administration.

7. This sounds like he's pointing fingers at the Bush Admin to me
"There are people that, if I was doing the job, would certainly not be in the position they were in at that time because they failed. They simply failed," Kean said.

To find out who failed and why, the commission has navigated a political landmine, threatening a subpoena to gain access to the president's top-secret daily briefs. Those documents may shed light on one of the most controversial assertions of the Bush administration – that there was never any thought given to the idea that terrorists might fly an airplane into a building."

8. Yup
Clearly aimed at the Bushies. When they sent Kissinger in the first time, it spoke volumes. Henry is a major-league carpet sweeper.

25. They're gonna try to blame it on Clinton but it won't sell....
Because Clinton came closer to getting bin Laden - with his missiles into Afghanistan - than Bush ever did. And the WTC had not been attacked and neither had our country. But Clinton was aware and tried every way in the world to tell the new Bush Administration that bin Laden was a danger to our country. He, and his spokesmen, were ignored because Bush was busy rolling back every executive order Clinton had signed and was no interested in anything with Clinton's fingerprints on it. Remember?

So that would mean 9/11 would be blamed on the CIA. If that were true, we can expect sparks to fly...

26. I think Tenet will be cleared
It was Tenet's briefing on August 6th that Bush is so intent to keep hidden. Tenet's job was to report the information to Bush...it was Bush who failed to act on the information.

27. You are right, Sunshine
The mass media seems unwilling to tell us this story.

If they don't wake up and start telling the facts on this "Kean Accusation Story" fully by tomorrow, then they are sending us all a very clear message: YOUR MASS MEDIA IS COMPLETELY CORRUPTED.

I do not mean partially corrupted, but Completely and Totally Corrupted. For me, at least, that will be the breaking point. I will no longer have any faith whatsoever in corporate media. I say that because I value truth and honesty. We just aren't getting it.

24. Part of the problem for the Bush* admin. is that...
...many of the WARNINGS they ignored/disregard were FROM the Clinton administration. That's on the record.

- Not to mention the fact that the Bushies won't forever be allowed to blame their mistakes/malfeasance on the previous administration. The buck has to stop somewhere and eventually it has to stop with those who were in charge at the time.
